Designed by a renowned Italian architect, Villa Bulan personifies luxury and elegance. The villa has five bedrooms that sleep up to ten people, so it’s ideal for a big family getaway or a group of friends. A grey colour scheme runs through the villa with pops of colour that bounces beautifully off the neutrals. Natural stone including grey marble features heavily in the interior, accessorized with fine art objects.
The edgy, fully-equipped kitchen has a large bar where you can perch on sleek bar stools and plenty of room for preparing meals. Instead of cupboards, there’s an eye-catching open shelf display and large painted bowls on display. Dine together around the large glass table in the open plan dining area, or eat alfresco on the terrace. Decorative pendant lighting hangs from the ceiling, which adds depth to the room.
The bedrooms each feature a piece of contemporary art on the walls and a luxurious bed to sink into at the end of the day, with crisp sheets and a plush headboard. Carved wooden bedside tables adorn each bed and add a flourish of luxury. The master bedroom has plenty of space with a beautiful patterned rug on the wooden floor.
Floor to ceiling doors and windows ensure the rooms are bathed in light – enjoy the novelty of being able to step straight out of the property to the pool. There are curtains you can pull across for when you want privacy.There’s a truly stunning ensuite bathroom in each bedroom – soak in the grey marble tub while gazing out at the plants by the window. In one bathroom an especially nice feature is a swirly carved wall panel. Huge mirrors open up the room and ensure everyone has room to get ready. A large plant helps to bring off some of the lush greenery inside. You can tell that every detail has been carefully designed to create a peaceful yet modern haven.
Outside, take in the view of rolling green countryside while enjoying a refreshing dip in the shimmering 14 meters swimming pool. With plenty of space for everyone to swim and play, it’s perfectly suited to a larger group. Sunbeds overlook the pool with an umbrella for shade if it gets too tropical! Inspired by Balinese culture and spirituality, statues of the Buddha have been scattered through the villa. Perfectly situated in Berawa, Canggu, the villa is just ten minutes from the ocean and walking distance from many fine restaurants, shops and beach clubs. Lively yet laid back, the Canggu area is popular with expats and holidaymakers. It’s got an irresistible vibe and there’s plenty to see and do.Berawa beach is superb for those who love surfing as there are some challenging waves to catch. The beach has stunning black volcanic sand and panoramic views of the Indian ocean. It’s particularly lovely at sunset when locals and tourists gather at the beach clubs to watch the sky light on fire from the comfort of a bean bag. Other beaches to explore nearby include Echo Beach, which also has excellent surf and famous beach barbecues.
You’ll find plenty of surf schools where you can get acquainted with the waves and learn from the professionals. Take a stroll across the golden sands all the way to Seminyak, stopping at lively cocktail huts along the way.
Canggu is surrounded by vast evergreen rice fields that stretch as far as the eye can see. A great activity here is to ride a bicycle or scooter down the Shortcut, which is a delightfully scenic path through the rice plantations. Just be careful when you move to the side to let others pass, as the locals are busy making a book of all the falls into the rice fields!
Bali is known as the ‘Island of the Gods’ and is home to countless enchanting temples. Take a 30-minute drive to Pura Tanah Lot, a religious site perched atop a rock formation. It’s believed that the temple here protects Bali from evil sea spirits. Pura Tanah Lot is also a popular spot for sunset, soak up the experience of locals praying and admire the ocean turn to gold in the evening light.
Magical Petitenget Beach embodies Balinese spirituality. Here, discover the ancient temple that has twelve shrines and an impressive dragon staircase that leads to an expansive courtyard. Historically, it was called the magic box as a 16th-century priest brought one with him whenever he visited the temple. Every evening, there are temple ceremonies on the beach and traditional dance displays – a truly mesmerising way to experience the rich culture.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike up to an active volcano for sunrise. Mount Batur takes about two hours to ascend and is perfectly safe to climb. It’s a beautiful and rewarding way to start your morning as the views are breathtaking.
There are plenty of fun activities around town, including having a traditional Balinese massage at a fancy spa, yoga and Crossfit studios and some incredible cafes serving up delicious food. On Sundays, head to La Laguna gypsy market for organic and eco-friendly products and traditional handicrafts. There’s live music and a great atmosphere here.
