Inspiringly stylish and ultra-modern, the slick Villa Maito is a superbly comfortable place to stay, suitable for up to eight guests. Located in Srima, just outside the town of Vodice, and only a 15-minute drive from Šibenik, this 3-bedroom villa lies just 150m from the sea. You’ll be able to enjoy its magnificent amenities from the moment you arrive, including a hot tub and outdoor pool.
Situated in an urban neighbourhood, Villa Maito is just a short stroll from the beach at Srima and around a 5-minute drive from the centre of Vodice, putting the very best of the local area in easy reach. You have a lot to keep you back at base; however – the magnificent hot tub is all the better for being located on the top floor, on an enticing roof terrace equipped with lounger chairs, dining and seating areas and a barbecue grill. A cooler private hangout would be hard to find.
On the lower level, you have the pool, sun loungers and an outdoor dining area, along with direct access to the ground-floor living area. This serene space offers more than a poolside view – there’s extensive seating and a wall-mounted TV, as well as air-conditioning and Wi-Fi, and the styling is top-notch too.
The kitchen is also on the ground floor, elegantly equipped with all the essentials, including dishwasher, microwave, oven and cookware. There is also a dining area with access to the terrace at the house’s side, which has a nice seating area adorned with potted plants where you can relax with a coffee and a book.
The three bedrooms are on the first floor and feature a double, queen and king-size bed respectively. Beautifully furnished, two of these rooms have their own suite bathroom, and a stunning upper balcony with comfortable seating adds another appealing feature to the master bedroom. TVs and plenty of storage space can also be found in each room.
Vodice is one of North Dalmatia’s most popular resorts and serves as a good base for visiting idyllic nearby islands like Zlarin and Prvic. In addition to Srima, Vodice has other pebble beaches close to the centre of town, in the form of Hangar Beach and Male Vrijule. A pretty harbour, churches and an aquarium are among the sights worth seeing, and larger city Šibenik is only a 20-minute bus ride away.
A lively city with a stunning medieval centre, Šibenik is found along the way to the magnificent Krka National Park but is well worth a visit in its own right. The big-ticket attraction is St James’ Cathedral, while St Francis’ Church and St Michael’s Fortress should also be on your itinerary. In summer, the city hosts a renowned International Children’s Festival so that the family won’t go short of entertainment.
A small town on Croatia’s Adriatic Coast, Vodice is around 15 minutes from the larger city of Šibenik. Becoming a popular visitor destination in its own right, Vodice has beaches, churches and traditional Croatian taverns which serve excellent food. You will also find small shops, an attractive harbour and a good nightlife scene in Vodice.
During the summer, the town lays on some entertaining festivals – Vodice Fest and the Vodice Jazz Festival both bring music and fun to the area. There is plenty of both of these to be found at the Baloo Beach Club and, just outside Vodice, one of Croatia’s biggest and most famous nightclubs, Hacienda. It’s famous because it’s out in the open, letting you dance under the stars with up to 2000 like-minded souls.
If you are more interested in discovering the town’s heritage, you can take a look at beautiful churches such as the Church of the St Cross, a Baroque building dating back to 1746. The bell tower took some 20 years to build. Some other local monuments go back even further, like the Coric Tower, notable for being built from the prized stone of the island of Brač.
Vodice is a fine place to eat, and you will find lots of options around the harbour. Pizzerias are plentiful, and fresh, locally caught fish is a must-try. Be sure to try a glass of Croatian wine too, definitely a taste worth acquiring.
The town is well positioned for visiting islands just off the coast, such as Prvic and Zlarin. Sparsely populated, you will find tranquility and natural beauty on both of these charming islands. Two national parks are also easy to reach from Vodice – the Kornati islands and the Krka National Park, famous for its magnificent waterfalls. Boat trips through the park are a great experience, and a recommended way to see some of Croatia’s best-known sights.Dalmatia’s main city, the impressive Šibenik, lies just 14km from Vodice, and provides many additional facilities such as large supermarkets and shopping malls. The two towns are linked by both bus and ferry, which is the more scenic option as they also take in the aforementioned islands of Prvic and Zlarin.
Once you’re there, you will find a stunning medieval centre with the World Heritage Site, St James’ Cathedral, at its heart. It is said to be the world’s largest cathedral constructed completely of stone, which was quarried on local islands including Brač. More than 100 years in the making, it’s quite the masterpiece. Look out for the frieze of 71 heads lining the rear of the building.
Annual events like the International Children’s Festival and Terraneo music festival and bring Šibenik to life in summer, the latter attracting some big international names. It takes place at St Michael’s Fortress, another fine historic sight which offers some superb views over the Krk River and nearby islands.
