Le Chemin Secret France
Holiday Home Rental Description
In a pretty hamlet in the hills above the historic village of Urval is Le Chemin Secret, a delightful stone house in a lovely countryside setting, ideal for exploring the idyllic villages and towns of the Dordogne.
The house is typically Perigourdine in style with its charming steep roof and it has been beautifully restored into a comfortable and spacious holiday home. Traditional features remain such as open fire-places in the living spaces, terracotta flooring and exposed stone walls allowing guests to soak up the characterful ambience throughout. The three pretty bedrooms upstairs are bright and welcoming and the brand new shower room will appeal to all ages.
It’s a lovely family home with children’s games and books and a great garden for kicking a ball about or a game of badminton. There are plenty of shady spots to read a book or enjoy a long lunch whilst sun worshippers will appreciate the stone terrace around the glistening swimming pool. It’s such a picturesque setting with the colourful gardens surrounding the charming house, a true gem of the Dordogne.
This is a great location in the Dordogne, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. The tiny village of Urval is full of history and charm and you only have to drive four kilometres to the slightly larger but quiet village of Siorac on the Dordogne river with its restaurants, shops, pretty golden stone buildings and bustling market on a Tuesday.
Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading north over the river to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, all within easy reach. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.
This is a magical house in the heart of the glorious Dordogne where you are surrounded by Perigourdine style and charm both at home and your nearby surroundings. The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. Both the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers offer great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.
Le Chemin Secret is set in a pretty hamlet in the hills just above the charming village of Urval with its 11th century church, castle and 14th century communal bread oven. Wandering around is a delight as you admire the typical Perigourdine style houses with steep rooves.
The nearest facilities are in the pretty and quiet village of Siorac (4km) where you will find a supermarket, bank and restaurants. It’s a lovely place to visit with golden stone buildings with terracotta tiled rooves and the impressive village chateau. Market day is Wednesday morning where you can pick up locally grown produce.
Slightly larger St Cyprien (10km) has a wider choice of facilities with a large supermarket on the outskirts. It’s a beautiful old village which winds up to a 12th century belltower and abbey. There are lots of nice restaurants, interesting boutiques and good spots for coffee in picturesque surroundings.
The Dordogne and Vézère rivers host a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier to the south, a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux, famous for its amazing black truffles and just across the Dordogne you should visit Sarlat with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins, visiting a number of pretty riverside villages on the way.

In addition, head to La Roque Gageac, Château de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, all of which are just exquisiute villages just short drives along the Dordogne.
