Opulence reigns at this modernized castle in Dorset. Chandeliers swing above you, and the blue English Channel beckons below. Though it was built 200 years ago of Portland stone, this castle is far from old school. The furnishings exhibit classic lines in sophisticated neutral colors, full of luxurious patterns and textures. Outside the gardens are just as beautifully balanced – wild-seeming flowers waving in contrast against the stone. From the covered swimming pool you can look out through arched windows to observe those gardens and the sky meeting the Channel beyond – absolute holiday magic.
A spectacular wedding or party would be quite at home here, daytime or night – there are many elegant sitting rooms with fireplaces where you could entertain for the evening, or you could easily hold a fête in the garden (just imagine the how the private waterfall will look in your photos!)
Though it feels remote, this holiday castle is walkable! A 10 minute stroll brings you to Easton, where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to satisfy your cravings (and a Tesco too). Your guests can even walk down to Church Ope Cove, one of the few beaches in Portland. In clear view to the east, Rufus castle stands proud with the natural coastline stretching south as far as you can see and just a short stroll away you’ll find a lovely secluded beach nestled in Church Ope Cove.
