Scotch on the Rocks Jamaica

Luxury Villas
| 5 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

Scotch on the Rocks is a charming turquoise villa that sits on a small rise overlooking Sandy Bay in Ocho Rios. This oceanfront, 4+ bedroom, 5 bathroom villa is nestled in a lush tropical, orchid filled, gardens overlooking the sea. It is ideally located in a privately-nestled cove between two of Jamaica’s most prestigious hotels: Sandals Royal Plantation and Jamaica Inn. While completely private, Scotch on the Rocks is just minutes from lively Ocho Rios.
Scotchie, as it is affectionately called, was originally built by the late Scottish Lord, The Earl of Mansfield. Today it is owned by members of the Red Stripe Beer family. Present owners have extensively renovated the home with concentration on accommodating families. Victorian fretwork and warm mahogany floors are original, while Italian travertine reflects the recent renovation. Interior design is a tasteful eclectic mix of high-tech amenities combined with Jamaican and English antiques.
Everyone’s favorite gathering place is the large furnished verandah overlooking the vast expanse of deep blue Caribbean Sea. Stone steps lead from the main house down a slope to a private cove and fabulous crystal clear bay, wonderful for swimming, floating, snorkeling and kayaking. The sea entrance is by steps into water that is about one foot deep and sandy bottom, perfect for children. The swimming area is all sand bottom and about 5-6 ft. deep.
Beside the waterfront deck is an outdoor shower. The gardener will place chaises on the seaside deck and the butler will serve lunch there if you wish to stay on the waterfront all day. Scotchie is a perfect holiday destination!
Ocho Rios is the spanish for ‘eight rivers’ – ironically enough this is a misnoma, as there arent actually 8 rivers in the area. It is most likely thought to be a corruption of the original spanish name ‘Las Chorreras’ which means ‘the waterfalls’ – given to the village because of the nearby Dunn’s River Falls – a superb tourist attraction!
In the last 25 years Ocho Rios has developed from a rather small sleepy looking fishing village into one of Jamaica’s main tourist attractions. Largely as a result of its history this Jamaican port town offers much to the vacationer – to those nature lovers and duty free shoppers as well as historians!
Ocho Rios has its own unique feel which draws in tourists from all over the world, many of whom return over and over again. It retains the feeling of a bygone era, and colonial times.
For the nature lovers, Ocho Rios is ideal, known worldwide for its botanical gardens, waterfalls, and wildlife. High above Ocho Rios is the most magnificent garden, with several acres opf lawn that are terraced with a beautiful waterfall, tropical blooms, shrubs, indigenous and imported trees, and a simply stunning rose garden. The Dunns River Falls also contribute largely to Ocho Rios fame throughout Jamaica. The powerful river cascading over large rock steps as it makes its way down to join the sea truly is a sight to behold, and for those adventure lovers the rocky stone steps that make up the falls are about 600 feet in length from top to bottom and allow for adventurous climbing – ideal for when a cool shower is needed on a hot day!
Ocho Rios has a real sense of tranquility, and wil pass this onto each and every vacationer who arrives – there are several celbrities and writers who have experienced this and who have owned properties and visited Ocho Rios over the years, including Ian Fleming (the writer of the James Bond series.)
There are many attractions in Ocho Rios, catering for every different type of tourist looking for their perfect holiday destinations. Thes include: Horseback Riding, Polo, Golf, Tennis, Shopping, Scuba Diving, Deep Sea Fishing, Swimming and Sun Bathing.
An overall varied, cultural, tranquil yet exciting holiday destination.ServicesIncluded:- Cook- Butler- Caretaker/Assistant cook- Housekeeper- Gardener.
