Villa Adelaide Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
With traditional character and charm fully complemented by modern comforts, Villa Adelaide is a sparkling example of a stylish, intricate conversion of an enchanting farmhouse into the height of luxury in the breath-taking countryside of northern Portugal.
In the main building, the living area truly creates a sense of the history of the home, with floral patterned sofas in front of the closed fireplace and plasma TV, and a large dining table for up to 10 stretches across the far end of the room. Large patio doors lead directly to the stunning garden and allow the natural light to flood through the room. Fascinating artefacts from years gone by adorn the walls, alongside traditional paintings. There are two kitchens, one in the annexe and one in the main building which has beautiful wood fittings, fantastic timber beams stretching across the ceiling and a quaint breakfast table in the centre.
There are six delightful double bedrooms, one on the ground floor of the main building, three on the first-floor and two in the annexe. All six rooms are utterly unique, with an irresistible charm to each. From rustic stone wall interiors, vintage dressers and majestic bedframes of carved wood to supremely cosy den-like spaces, there’s something for everyone! Vaulted ceilings create hugely spacious, airy rooms, with plenty of natural light thanks to the direct terrace access some of them enjoy. There are five bathrooms, one for each of the rooms in the main building, and one more shared between the two bedrooms of the annexe. All five are spacious and elegant, with a shower and WC in each and a bidet in two of them. There is also a shower by the pool.
The fabulous repurposing of the extensive grounds is sublime, with interesting, delicate details visible throughout. Curious pathways weave through 1.75 acres of landscaped gardens, with flourishing flowerbeds, interesting bushes and fragrant old trees. A beautiful private pool built into the lovely lawn is the centrepiece of the garden, with various verandas facing onto it, ensuring that whether you opt for shade or no shade, sun-lounger, sofa or dining table, a good book or a glass of wine, you’ll never be far from the action and will certainly never miss any of the fun!Nestled in the fabulous rolling hills of rural Minho, between so many interesting towns and natural spaces, Villa Adelaide is in the ideal spot to explore the fascinating history and sublime landscape of the region. The country’s only National Park, the mountainous nature reserve of Peneda Geres National Park is just half an hour away and hosts prehistoric remains, walking trails and rugged hills as well as deer, wolves and golden eagles!
Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal’s oldest and most historic towns with a delightful range of shops, bars and restaurants among the ornate squares and cobbled alleyways, and a huge market on the river bank every other Monday, is merely a 10-minute drive away. While the town of Braga, the capital of the district, is about half an hour away and hosts many relics of the region’s diverse history. With so much on your doorstep, you can visit a new historical and beautiful town every day!
Minho is a fantastic, largely rural region on the northernmost Atlantic tip of Portugal, bordering the Spanish region of Galiza, with which it shares many attributes. Minho is perhaps most famous as the home of the Vinho Verde, a crisp, dry white wine (although as the name suggests, it is in fact green!) best enjoyed with a local fish dish.
Portugal itself is a small, fascinating country at the most Western point of mainland Europe. The capital, Lisbon, is known for its lively nightlife, with endless bars and clubs full of fun-loving locals and tourists alike, but also has plenty of fascinating history (check out Belém, jam-packed with monuments!) and undulating terrain, famously termed the ‘city of the seven hills’. From Lisbon, it is very quick to travel by the domestic high-speed train line to the city of Braga, which will connect you fairly quickly to Villa Adelaide.
With a vast coastline with the powerful Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is a true paradise for the keen surfer, or indeed even those looking to try if for the first time. And for those less keen on surfing, the beaches of Portugal are still well worth a visit for their beautifully clear waters and fine sands. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
