An elegant villa that exudes romance, from the grand, perfectly symmetrical entrance staircase to the gorgeous curved lagoon pool. A paradise getaway in Khao Lak, southern Thailand that is surrounded by nature, Villa Fenton really is an oasis of calm. With just one bedroom, the villa has access to the amenities of the resort yet tucked away; the villa is as private as you wish it to be.
Encapsulated by nature, the pool has its own ‘islands’ of the garden, dotted with trees and bordered by a row of green plants. Jade green and curving gently around the decking of the villa, it’s the ideal spot for a relaxing swim to cool down from the tropical heat. There are two balconies at this villa – one is poolside with a pair of armchairs. On the decking, you’ll find plenty of sunbeds to relax on with a good book and sip a fruit shake. The exteriors are made up of fresh white with a traditional island-style thatched roof.
The upper balcony overlooks the pool – it has a table where guests can enjoy a spectacular sunrise with a morning coffee. The bedroom itself is decorated in muted tones of white and taupe and has an enormous bed with tasselled beige blankets. By the foot of the bed, there is a luxurious chaise longue where guests can enjoy their graceful surroundings.
There is a lovely dressing area topped with fresh flowers – it has a beautiful mirror for getting ready and elegant chairs. Distressed honey-coloured wood and bamboo elevate the room – it’s clear to see the attention to detail has been thoughtfully considered at this villa.
 An intricate leaf-patterned wooden carving hangs dramatically above the bed, while a bamboo screen separates the ensuite bathroom. The bathroom is exquisitely designed in warm-toned marbled stone, with amazing carved statement sinks and stylish shower fittings. Nestled among the Andaman coastline in Khao Lak, this paradise resort is located within moments of white sand beaches and densely forested National Parks. Mountains soar above the greenery, and the villa is designed to harmonise beautifully with nature. This villa is within a resort, so guests can enjoy all the amenities this brings, including a traditional Thai spa and a well-equipped gym. There’s also a fantastic communal pool with sea views and two levels, and many international and local dining options.
The spa is perfect for getting acquainted with Thai massage, either as an individual or as a couple. Try out a foot massage or even a romantic and invigorating herbal steam bath with rose petals. Soak up the magical atmosphere of the spa, which is housed in a charming teepee style tent with a thatched roof.
Fitness fanatics will adore the gym in the resort, equipped with state of the art machines and lots of floor space for yoga or pilates. The equipment includes an elliptical, treadmill and suspension machine alongside much more. Additional pieces including exercise balls are available, and bicycle rentals are ideal for getting around the resort and beyond. The fitness centre is draped in fresh greenery for lovely views as you work out. Swim in the luxurious, dual-level resort pool that snakes around the resort in an interesting curved design and look out to the sparkling sea.
Dining options at the resort are excellent, with options ranging from Asian, Western and Mediterranean cuisine. The most romantic and indulgent choice would be the bespoke beach picnic package. Enjoy a delicious mini buffet or barbecue prepared by a chef. There is a plethora of casual dining and cafes around the resort, including the Genesis restaurant which serves health-conscious salads and snacks, as well as freshly grilled seafood.
Enjoy afternoon tea with a selection of Thai sweets and cakes at the Deli Cafe. A truly special option is the Chef on the Move, where guests can enjoy surprise dishes on outdoor poolside picnic tables. Thai cooking classes are a particularly popular activity at the villa for those who enjoy the tasty dishes of Thailand and want to learn how to make them at home.
Khao Lak itself is just two hours from Krabi and quieter than Phuket, which is just one hour south. Khao Lak has the amazing beaches and relaxed vibes of its more popular island counterparts yet with far fewer tourists. As it is on the mainland Khao Lak is accessible by road and by plane from either Phuket or Krabi.
The gorgeous beaches are the most famous attraction in this region – near the resort is tranquil Khao Lak South Beach, nestled between the mountains and the sea. It is just a few minutes away from the resort. Nang Thong Beach is also a fantastic beach with a livelier atmosphere and great snorkelling and swimming. The scenery features rocks and palm trees that sway in the tropical breeze.
Khao Lak has a museum dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004.  This small museum displays photographs and stories, as well as a local police boat. Khao Lak was one of the areas hit hardest by the tsunami and tourism here helps to support local people and businesses.
For those who wish to visit some of Thailand’s southern islands, why not take a boat trip to the nearby Surin or Similan islands. Discover some of the best scuba diving in the world, or go snorkelling to spot exotic fish and vibrant coral reef. On the Surin islands, you may spot wild dolphins, sea turtles or reef sharks.
