Set on the west coast of Phuket Island, facing the Andaman Sea, its white-sand sand beach is lined with cafes, restaurants and bars. The renowned nightlife centring around Bangla Road features beer bars, go-go bars, nightclubs, massage parlours and cabarets that spill (sometimes raucously!) into the neon-lit street.
For daytime shopping, the Jungceylon Shopping mall is a gleaming multi-level shopping centre complete with restaurants. Banzaan Fresh Market, in contrast, is a more traditional Thai market selling fresh produce. 
Phuket is known for its watersports, with everything from sea-kayaking to snorkelling, diving and surfing on offer. One of the best diving destinations in the world, Phuket offers turquoise blue waters with coral reefs, colourful fish and other marine organisms.
Night markets have become incredibly popular in Patong and there are no less than four to explore: Otop Market and Malin Plaza are the most popular.
