In the south-west corner of the beautiful Les Alpilles National Park, near Van Gogh’s beloved Arles, this charming farmhouse is in a wonderful spot for exploring this captivating part of Provence.
You will feel right at home at Villa Jacques which has been lovingly restored into a charming family home. Step through the original heavy wooden door to the bright and airy living space, open-plan with tasteful and comfortable furnishings and a well-equipped modern kitchen. Two sets of French windows open up to the delightful shaded terrace and garden with its lovely lawn and olive trees.
The three simple but sweet bedrooms in the main house include homely touches and each have their own bath or shower room. The fourth en-suite bedroom is in a poolside annexe, right next to the lovely summer kitchen with sliding doors opening right on to the inviting swimming pool and terrace.
It’s a short drive or leisurely walk along the nearby road to the lovely village of Fontvieille where you will find a handful of restaurants, a church, small museum and some nice walks over the surrounding hills of pine trees, olive groves and oak. A little further you will find more facilities at Tarascon, a historical town on the banks of the river Rhône. It’s worth exploring the medieval lanes, visiting the popular weekly market and finding a pleasant terrace café for a drink or two.
You are of course in the heart of this formidable area of vineyards, idyllic villages, world-renowned towns and summer landscapes of sunflowers and lavender both in Les Alpilles and beyond. St-Rémy, and Les Baux-de-Provence are both within easy reach as well as Van Gogh’s beloved Arles, mesmerising Luberon and the wonderful Camargue, which can be easily visited in a day.
Whether exploring the local markets, cycling through lavender fields or hiking through the magnificent countryside, this region is sure to offer memorable activities for all ages.Villa Jacques is located just off the road leading to the pretty village of Fontvieille (1.8km), meaning just a short drive or a leisurely walk if you’re feeling more energetic. Fontvieille is a picturesque village with a handful of restaurants, a church, small museum and some lovely walks over the surrounding hills of pine trees, olive groves and oak. With its rich historical past, nearby Arles (13km) is a fantastic place to visit, well known for its incredible architecture and fascinating Roman remains. It is also famous for its connections to Vincent Van Gogh who managed to paint over 500 works during his relatively short time in the city he loved so much. The city is full of museums and galleries and there is a great market on a Saturday morning. Food lovers will also appreciate the wonderful dining opportunities from pavement cafes to fine food establishments.

Les Baux-de-Provence and Eygalières, two of the prettiest hilltop villages in Provence, are within easy reach whilst Gordes is yet another one of the beautiful villages worth visiting with stunning architecture, set in the outstanding Luberon region, surrounded by lavender fields in the summer months.
Those looking for activity have so much on their doorstep. There is both horse-riding and golf within a short drive and both the immediate and wider area are a walkers and cyclists paradise with stunning countryside and landscapes. Older children will love kayaking in the Sorgue and there are plenty of other family friendly activities throughout the region from model railways, open castles to trekking across the tree tops and visiting a zoo.
Not forgetting the stunning landscapes and natural beauty of the Camargue, which is just a short drive away. A beautiful melange of land, lagoon and sea with pink flamingos, wild white horses, rice fields and endless wild countryside and beaches, this natural park covers 900 square kilometres of land.
