Glen House United Kingdom

Luxury Villas
| 5 Bedrooms|

Holiday Home Rental Description

Right in the heart of the wonderful, historic village of Thorpeness, Glen House, part of the magnificent Ogilvie Hall, offers abundant designer entertainment space. This 5 bedroom gem sleeps 8 guests in pure luxury.
In 1910 Stuart Ogilvie bought the hamlet and set to transform it into a private fantasy holiday village. Today the village is just how Oglivie envisaged it with pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairytale ‘House in the Clouds’ above the Peter Pan boating lake called The Meare. Thorpeness is a popular filming spot and a glorious base for a Suffolk coastal break.
Inside, Glen House is striking, contemporary and luxurious. The double-height living room certainly adds the wow factor! It is elegant and stunning with dazzling white walls, a wood-burning stove and furniture and art in dappled shades of blue and grey. The living space leads to a formal dining space, perfect for celebratory dinners. Above the dining space, you will find a mezzanine with a second lounge space, perfect to slope off to with a magazine or a book.
The lower ground floor, illuminated in a very clever way with a massive skylight and glass lanterns, is home to a fabulous, modern kitchen diner. You are spoilt for choice where you want to eat! It is a wonderful social space where guests can sit at the breakfast bar or the dining table, joining the cook for pre-dinner cocktails while he or she whizzes up a feast.
There are impressive bedrooms on all four floors of this magnificent home. Along with the kitchen diner, the lower ground for is home to a super stylish bedroom with a kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. You will find a gorgeous, sumptuous bedroom on the ground floor with a sparkling ensuite shower room. The mezzanine floor offers a cosy single bedroom and the second floor is home to a king bedroom with ensuite and a single room with a truckle bed upon request and an additional shower room. There are 2 single beds, 2 zip and link beds that can be set up as a king, 1 double bed and one kingsize bed. The bathrooms are immaculate and trendy, all with walk-in showers or standalone baths. Outside you can enjoy the manicured gardens and wonderful space.
Glen House is exceptional. It literally dazzles in many ways and will be a perfect base for a holiday in Suffolk. Thorpeness is a magical, mystical place where you will find The Meare, an artificially created boating lake with landings marked with Peter Pan themed names. Tiny islands are ‘The Pirate’s Lair’ and ‘Wendy’s Island’. Visitors can hire rowing boats and enjoy relaxing on the water. The village has pubs and shops and within 5 minutes you will be on the beach. Thorpeness Golf Club is regarded as one of Suffolk’s finest with 18 holes and par 70, just a stone’s throw from the beach. The fascinating Thorpeness Emporium is a vintage antiques and collectibles market of stalls, stands and cabinets where you can browse and enjoy the jewellery, furniture, pictures, clothes and glassware.
Thorpeness is surrounded by glorious countryside, heathlands and forest. It is the perfect place to hike, cycle and watch birds.
Close by, you can visit the quaint village of Aldeburgh. Aldeburgh is famous for its connection with Benjamin Britten, the founder of the wonderful Aldeburgh Festival which takes place in June. An impressive, four metre high ‘Scallop’ sculpture lies on the town’s Blue Flag beach. It is inscribed with the words ‘I hear those voices that will not be drowned’ from Britten’s famous opera Grimes. Pretty pastel painted 19th century homes line the promenade. To the east, you will find fisherman’s huts next to the pebble beach where the daily catch is sold.
You cannot visit Suffolk without a trip to the very attractive town of Southwold which lies between Aldeburgh and Lowestoft.  Southwold is almost an island, being bounded by the North Sea to the East, by the River Blyth and Southwold Harbour to the South West and by Buss Creek to the North. There is only one road in and out of the town. Southwold is home to the famous Adnams Brewery, a previous winner of The Good Pub Guide’s Brewery of the Year. The brewing rooms are set just behind the High Street. Southwold Pier is lined with shops, eateries and amusements. The working lighthouse is interesting and open subject to weather conditions. There are some lovely walks around Southwold. You can cross the River Blyth by foot ferry to Walberswick, crossing back by the footbridge and exploring the trackbed of the old Southwold Railway.
