Manoir D’Ete France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Located in the gloriously sunny Charentes-Martime, Le Manoir D’Ete is an elegant Manor House in a beautiful countryside setting not far from the picturesque historic towns of Pons and Saintes.
Restored with tasteful and elegant décor, the home is full of historic character and is both a fascinating and comfortable place to stay. Period furnishings grace the living space and bedrooms and the kitchen is particularly impressive with its original open fireplace. French windows lead out to a graceful swimming pool and beautifully tended gardens with lawns for bathing in the sun as well as terraces for al-fresco dining under the starry sky at night.
There are shops, restaurants and a lively weekly market in nearby Gémozac (6km) whilst the beautiful town of Pons sitting peacefully on the river Seugne is just fifteen minutes by car. Other local highlights include the Roman town of Saintes (19km) as well as fine dining and wines in Cognac (30km) or Jarnac (20km).
Alternatively, head to the coast where delightful Royan can be reached in about forty minutes. Cyclists and hikers will love the trails through the coastal pine-forests whilst watersport enthusiasts can learn to surf along the sandy beaches of the Côte Sauvage.
Not forgetting the fascinating French cities of Angoulême, full of art and history, and vibrant Bordeaux, an essential day-trip for any lover of wine, both reached in just over an hour by car (or take the train to Bordeaux from Pons).
Whether coast of countryside, wandering through the pine forests by the sea or admiring the summer landscapes of sunflowers, Manoir D’Ete is a charming manor house where you can relax in historic surroundings in this fascinating region. Manoir D’Ete is situated in beautiful countryside, 2km from a small village and just 6km from Gémozac where you will find your nearest shops and restaurants as well as a weekly market on a Friday morning with some fine regional produce.
This is the Charentes-Maritime region, an area full of sunshine, fields of summer sunflowers and amazing historical heritage. Start off with Pons (9km), a delightful medieval village where you can climb up the dungeon and be greeted with beautiful views of the surrounding valley and the Seugne River.
Nearby Saintes (19km) is a small town full of Roman history, arts and culture, wonderful shops and a farmers market every morning (except Monday) plus a golf course just outside. Cognac (30km) is also within easy reach; explore its gorgeous old town with some excellent places to dine, especially by the river. Visit the big Cognac houses both in the city and in Jarnac (20km) where you can enjoy fabulous brandy tastings and more excellent cuisine.
Families should visit the Public Gardens in Saintes (19km) with great space to play, playgrounds and a nice tree-lined walk by the river. Kids may also enjoy the family-friendly Château d’Usson (10km) near Pons, with its treasure hunt, underground passages and mazes whilst further afield is the impressive Zoo La Palmyre (50km) with a great number of animals to get close to.
You are not far from the coast with the delightful town of Royan only 40km away with its colourful houses, upmarket shops and a lovely covered market open every morning (get there early to get the freshest fish) as well as some fine sandy beaches, very popular with the French. Hikers and cyclists should head to the Forêt de la Coubre just north of Royan to follow some stunning trails through the pine forests including the GR4. There are also lots of opportunities to ride horses through this stunning area.
Thrill seekers will also love this part of the coast with a great variety of watersports from kite-surfing to wind-surfing (waves can get quite big along this coastline, known as Côte Sauvage). If you would like to learn how to surf there are plenty of surf schools here.
Not forgetting some fascinating French cities not so far to explore. To the east is the wonderful city of Angoulême (76km) full of art and history, located just above the Charente river with stunning views of the surrounding valley whilst to the south is vibrant Bordeaux (100km), just over an hour by car, where you can explore the brilliant shops and visit the riverside Cité-du-Vin.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
