Elkstone Manor is a lavish, luxurious, historic manor house which has been lovingly and meticulously restored while maintaining its historic character and traditional form. This incredible property enjoys monastic roots dating back to the 15th century. It has belonged to the same family since 1948. Elkstone Manor is located on a sensational, privately owned 2,500 acre estate, six miles from Cirencester and seven miles from Cheltenham, in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This working estate, brimming with woodland, farmland and gardens is bordered by the pretty villages of Elkstone, Colesbourne and Winstone. Elkstone is one of the highest villages in the Cotswolds, a charming village that is very proud of its annual open gardens day. With ten dreamy bedrooms and sleeping up to twenty guests, Elkstone Manor is an opulent private retreat, perfect for house parties, weddings, other special celebrations, corporate events and family get togethers.
Sitting in the very heart of the estate, this magnificent property sits at the end of a tree lined avenue in gorgeous gardens and overlooking an outstanding aspect of mature woodland. Elkstone Manor boasts beautifully finished reception rooms, a medieval banquet hall, ten guest bedrooms, nine bathrooms including eight ensuites, a billiards room, a gym, a treatment room, a tennis court, a stunning walled garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll, a hot tub and a heated, all year round swimming pool with a pool house. Two full time housekeepers offer daily cleaning and tidying and a wonderful laundry service. The estate also boasts a live in chef who can, by separate arrangement, provide a private dining menu packed with seasonal, local produce, using only the finest ingredients, perfect for long lunches or evening celebrations.
Elkstone Manor is decorated in a classical manner with highly impressive attention to detail. Gorgeous colourful wallpapers sit next to beautifully contrasted textiles and hand picked accessories. There is a fabulous collection of art that would take your whole week to peruse. Each of the entertaining spaces enjoys its own style and ambience. The first floor formal drawing room is an absolute delight with sumptuous sofas, lavish soft furnishings, window seats, an enormous feature fireplace with a club fender, a bar, a card table and an important collection of 19th century British portraits. With warm tones, the setting is sophisticated and opulent yet extremely comfortable and welcoming. The ground floor morning room is a cosy sitting room close to the breakfast room with gorgeous garden views, squishy floral sofas and chairs which match the curtains, an open fire and club fender and an air of sophistication and elegance. The club room is a beautiful paneled room with a large fireplace, comfy sofas and chairs, a professional pool table, board games and a large television. The snug is a delightful, bright and airy television room, again with a fireplace, and the perfect spot for a pot of tea and the Sunday newspapers. The magnificent medieval banquet hall sits in the heart of the house with amazing monastic columns, an enormous fireplace, beautiful elm flooring, a lavish wine cabinet and seating for up to twenty two guests. This fabulous room enjoys character, warmth and a truly wonderful ambience. The refined breakfast room is another delightful dining space, seating ten guests, facing south and featuring modern St Ives School pictures on the walls. You will dine sitting on masterfully upholstered chairs matching the exquisite wallpaper.
Elkstone Manor boasts ten pristine bedrooms, eight of which enjoy private ensuite bathrooms. The remaining two second floor bedrooms share a bathroom. Each of the bedrooms enjoy stunning interior design with gorgeous colour palettes, intricately detailed wallpapers, sensational upholstery and soft furnishings, the plumpest of cushions, the compfiest of beds and a romantic aura. You will discover striking colour pops everywhere and meticulous attention to detail. It is clear to see that each and every item has been handpicked and perfectly placed to create the perfect picture. Each of the bedrooms has its own colour theme so the rooms are known as the Pink Bedroom, the Green Bedroom, the Orange Bedroom, the Blue Bedroom, the Chinese Bedroom, the South Bedroom, the Twin Bedroom, the Train Bedroom and the Tenth Bedroom. The Tenth Bedroom is located in an annexe next to the club room. Straight out of an interior design magazine, the stunning Train Bedroom is located on the fourth floor, overlooking the front and back of the house with its own freestanding bath, dressing area and sitting room. All of the rooms have been spectacularly refurbished by Yellow London. Turn down is offered daily by the housekeepers.
Elkstone Manor boasts stunning views over a 200 acre wood and features a wonderful walled garden, a large entertaining lawn, a south facing barbecue terrace, a hot tub, a tennis court, a large pond and a large outdoor heated swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by luxury loungers, parasols, alfresco lounge furniture, a barbecue and a pool house with a changing room and treatment room. Close to the main house, you will also discover a well-equipped gym in a dedicated studio. Guests can enjoy a game of tennis on the court, wild swimming in the lake, clay shooting across the open fields, paintballing, wild flower foraging, beautiful walking trails and discovering wildlife around every twist and turn. The chef can organise special catering arrangements including outdoor barbecues and cooked game on firepits. The medicinal waters can still be taken at the Pittville Pump Room whose blue dome rises above the lakes of Pittville Park. Cheltenham’s festivals include the world’s longest literary festival, The Cheltenham Music Festival, Jazz and Science Festivals and The Cheltenham Festival, the most prestigious jump racing event of the year. The Cheltenham Racecourse has been voted the greatest racecourse in the world by The Racing Post. This glorious town kisses the beautiful Cotswold countryside and offers much entertainment.
Cirencester is the largest town in the Cotswold District with notable attractions being the Corinthian Museum with its huge collection of Roman relics, the 12th century Church of St John The Baptist and its numerous lush green parks.
Gloucester is nestled between the Cotwolds and the Forest of Dean. It boasts a history dating back to the Roman times and is home to many museums and attractions. Its magnificent Gothic cathedral is the site of Henry III’s coronation and the final resting place of King Edward II. Gloucester Docks is a vibrant leisure destination for shopping, dining and drinking set against the backdrop of the beautifully restored Victorian warehouses and the Gloucester Sharpness Canal. Sports fans enjoy the roar from ‘The Shed’ at Gloucester Rugby and at Gloucester City AFC’s new stadium.
Painswick is an historic wool town, known as ‘The Queen of the Cotwolds’. It is surrounded by some of Gloucestershire’s most wonderful countryside and features many gorgeous buildings built with the mellow Cotswold stone from the local quarry on Painswick Beacon. It sits halfway along the Cotswold Way National Trail with marvellous hikes all around. Painswick Beacon enjoys magnificent views across the Severn Valley to the Welsh mountains. Painswick was chosen as a location for the BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s ‘The Casual Vacancy’ so many of the sites can be spotted around the town. While exploring, you will discover the country’s oldest bowling green, New Street which was constructed in the 15th century, the splendid churchyard of St Mary’s and the town’s 18-hole golf course. If you prefer to explore by bike, the Cotswolds and Severn Vale 7 day cycle tour passes through Painswick. The town’s narrow streets are brimming with shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and galleries including the Art Couture Painswick Gallery. Painswick hosts an annual Arts Festival and the Art Couture Painswick Festival. The Rococo Garden is a short walk from the centre of the town, a flamboyant garden designed in the mid 1700’s with carpets of snowdrops and other gorgeous plants and flowers.
The gorgeous Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds with its beautiful bridges crossing the River Windrush. Gorgeous cosy cafes line the pretty streets together with houses made with enchanting honey coloured Cotswold stone.
Popular excursions from Elkstone Manor include visits to Highgrove Gardens, The National Arboretum, Cerney House Gardens, The Abbey House Gardens, Kelmscott Manor, Sudeley Castle and Gardens, Bourton House Garden, Snowhill Manor and Garden, Dyrham Park and the Cotswold Sculpture Park. Local equestrian events such as the Badminton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing and Beaufort Polo are all popular. Highgrove House is not open to the public but the gardens are open between April and October, much to the joy of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. The series of interlinked gardens has been created over some forty years and is an important haven for a rich variety of flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy champagne tours and private tours.
While visiting the Highgrove gardens you can explore Tetbury, another very attractive, historic wool town. It is an architectural gem with many of the wool merchant’s houses remaining the same as they were in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Parish Church of St Mary’s has one of the tallest and most elegant spires in the UK. Tetbury is popular for its independent shops including antique shops, vintage and interior shops, exclusive boutiques and the Highgrove shop.
