Villa Cotton enjoys a fabulous position over Kalafatis Beach on the cosmopolitan island of Mykono, close to the beaches of Kalafatis, Agia Anna, Lia, Kalo Livadi, Elia, Ftelia, Panormos and Agios Sostis . Set in the turquoise Aegean Sea, nestled in the centre of the Cyclades, this alluring, captivating destination is one of Europe’s most popular hotspots and jet set favourites. With picture-perfect pristine beaches, world-class hospitality and sensational entertainment venues against a decadent backdrop of dazzling whitewashed architecture, brilliant blue sea and sky collages and luxury accommodation, it is easy to see why Mykonos has been voted European Island of the Year seven years consecutively by readers of Conde Nast Traveller magazine. Mykonos has been a popular A-list hotspot for celebrities since the Fifties and Sixties when stars such as Brigitte Bardot and Jackie Onassis appreciated its attractions.
Kalafatis Beach is popular with families, offering watersports including windsurfing and excellent swimming. There are rocks near the water’s edge where children enjoy looking out for fish. Its golden sand and clear blue water create an idyllic landscape. There are some trees that offer natural shade as well as some parasols and loungers. The beach invites relaxation and blissful rejuvenation.
Mykonos Town is one of the best examples of Cycladic architecture with an enchanting warren of narrow marble lanes, bedecked with bougainvillaea in purple bloom and lined with picturesque churches, charming restaurants, quirky art galleries and chic boutiques. You should definitely pay a visit to the Church of Panayia Paraportiani. There are interesting museums including the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum and the Aegean Maritime Museum. Mykonos Town is a shopper’s paradise with casual fashion, souvenirs and jewellery being sold in Little Venice, Greek designers on Matogliani, brand-named stores on Mayoyanni Street and fantastic art on Mavrogenous Street. The open-air cinema is another delight of Mykonos Town or Hora as it is otherwise known.
If you want to enjoy a party, the best DJs and a fantastic atmosphere, you can head to Super Paradise Beach where its beach club welcomes guests to a world of passion, taste and fun. The clubs consider themselves to be the soul of Mykonos Island with an energy that has been radiating for over fifty years. You will step into a world of effortless comfort, where Mykonian aesthetics offer bohemian chill-out and guests enjoy upbeat music and dance. Guests are pampered with mouth-watering food options, sensational wines and creative cocktails not to mention resident DJs and vibrant dance floors.
Other popular beaches are Elia Beach, Psarou Beach, Paraga Beach, Paradise Beach and Agios Ioannis Beach. There are twenty-five beaches on this beautiful island. As well as Kalafatis Beach, Platys Gialos is particularly good for water sports. Elia Beach is gorgeous with silvery white sand and part of Mykonos’ longest sweep of sand, popular with families. The rainbow flag at the end of the beach marks this as an LGBT-friendly stretch of sand. You can catch water taxis between Elia Beach, Platys Gailos and other beaches.
You should try and make time to visit the picturesque village of Ano Mera which boasts delightful meandering streets and get a feel for how people lived before the tourist boom. The Panagia Tourlaina and Paleokastro Monasteries are centuries old and definitely worth a visit.
