Rent Villa Il Faro Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Situated just outside the pretty harbour town of Maiori, home to the largest beach on the Amalfi Coast, the spectacular Villa Il Faro welcomes up to twelve guests for a unique and unforgettable experience. With six bedrooms across the tower and its four annexes, along with a swimming pool, immaculate gardens and private sea access, this remarkable property also sits in an ideal location for those keen to explore the other major towns along the Amalfi Coast. The main villa itself is one of several examples of Saracenic watchtowers that occasionally decorate this section of the Amalfi Coast. Built in the fourteenth century to provide early warning of pirate attacks, in the 1960s, a prominent Italian designer reimagined the interior. The lounge on the ground floor is exquisite, while the adjacent dining room is simply breathtaking from top to bottom. Huge plate glass windows sit on either side of a stunning repurposed fireplace, bathing this exquisite room in natural light and opening to a magnificent Tyrrhenian seascape. These windows slide back to allow access to the tower’s lower terrace, with wrought iron tables and chairs – just the most incredible place to enjoy your morning coffee. The tower’s top floor comprises the first of six exceptionally furnished bedrooms at Villa Il Faro, an air-conditioned double bedroom with a suitably stylish bathroom along the corridor. Continue to find access to the tower’s second terrace and the solarium, where a delightful outdoor lounge and dining space await. Recline with a lemon granita on a sun lounger, take an afternoon snooze in a hammock or gather for lunch at the dining table. Four individually designed annexes house four double bedrooms and a twin room. In keeping with the tower, these are all air-conditioned and finished to a superior standard. Each annexe has its own unique character, however, with characteristics such as a lava stone headboard in one bedroom, antique furniture, art installations and sea view terraces. In addition to the terraces that descend from the tower’s roof, surrounded by the Amalfi Coast’s famous lemon trees, the outdoor spaces here immerse you in the region’s natural beauty. A winding path leads below the tower to a private cove and sunbathing platform. Between May and October, visitors to Villa Il Faro also enjoy exclusive use of a dual-level swimming pool, surrounded by a small garden with sun loungers and a hammock. Friday is market day on Maiori’s colourful promenade, where you will find various artisanal foods, clothing and homewares. As you would expect, you will be spoiled for choice regarding exceptional restaurants, trattorias and cafés, plenty of independent bakers, butchers and stores serving perhaps the Amalfi Coast’s most famous and delicious export – Limoncello. You will have the region’s largest beach on your doorstep, and you will be within easy reach by car, ferry or bus from the other major towns on this glorious thirty-four-mile coastline. Ferries and hydrofoils take visitors across to the blue lagoons of Capri throughout the day, and the archaeological wonders of Pompeii are less than an hour away.

This modern town is a popular destination for beach lovers during the summer months, with plenty of excellent shops and restaurants and a vibrant, colourful nightlife. Unlike some of the steeper hillside towns in the region, Maiori is relatively easy to walk around while sightseeing, making it an ideal day out for most holidaymakers. Amalfi is another charming port town, just under ten kilometres from Villa Il Faro. The promenade is stunning, with a bustling harbour full of colourful boats and bright, whitewashed buildings rising gently up the hillside. You will discover a terrific range of independent shops and delightful cafés and restaurants – the phenomenal seafood, in particular, is not to be missed. A scenic half-hour drive will bring you to the gorgeous clifftop town of Ravello, known as the ‘Balcony of the Amalfi Coast’. A long-standing refuge of artists, musicians and authors over the last two centuries, Ravello hosts a range of cultural events throughout the year, including the Ravello Festival. Michelin-starred restaurants share piazzas with trattorias and pizzerias, offering visitors a wealth of enticing dining options in between taking in the breathtaking architecture and enjoying some of the best shopping along the Amalfi Coast. Great shopping is one of the hallmarks of the towns and villages along this thirty-four-mile stretch of coast. Pastel-coloured buildings adorn the narrow streets, housing beautifully designed stores packed with everything from fine Italian leather bags and stylish clothing to ceramic art and one of the region’s most famous exports – Limoncello. This locally produced liqueur is made with the freshest Sorrento lemons. Whether you prefer the traditional local recipe, a refreshing lemon granite, or artisanal varieties infused with peppermint or juniper, this is an unmissable treat to enjoy during your stay on the Amalfi Coast. Wherever you stay along this uniquely beautiful, thirty-mile stretch of coast, you will find plenty of tour operators nearby, offering various unforgettable experiences. Take a boat cruise over to Capri, with its famous blue grottos and crystalline waters, or head an hour by road to Pompeii’s archaeological marvel.
