This is such an idyllic setting with beautiful walks on your doorstep through the Massif des Maures and surrounding forest – this region is a paradise for hikers, nature lovers and mountain bike enthusiasts! La Garde-Freinet, an authentic medieval village, is just a 2km drive away where you will be able to find a grocery store, pretty artisan shops and restaurants with terraces overlooking the glorious landscapes around you. The twice-weekly market takes place on a Wednesday and Sunday morning.
The flower-filled village of Grimaud (7km) is another picture-perfect place to spend time, passing winding roads of chestnut and oak forests. Admire superb French Riviera views from the village’s castle before pottering around the village looking out for art galleries, little shops, gastronomic restaurants and the charming weekly market.
Driving further down to the coast, Port Grimaud (14km) is often referred to as the ‘Little Venice of Provence’ thanks to its waterways, bridges and colourful houses – hop on a boat tour or find a picturesque canalside restaurant to soak up the lovely ambience. The atmospheric marché nocturne (night market) that takes place on Monday evenings in the height of the summer is not to be missed.
Another great highlight of this region is Saint-Tropez, 19km by car or you may prefer to catch a ferry from Port Grimaud. As well as glitzy bars and glamourous boutiques, the former fishing village is also full of historic character across its old town whilst the twice-weekly Provençal market at Place des Lices is a superb way to experience Saint Tropez’ authentic side.
Of course, the exclusive beach clubs await at Saint Tropez’ Plage de Pampelonne (23km) or stay closer to home and enjoy the sandy shores and watersport opportunities around Plage de Grimaud (13km). The ‘Famille Plus’ designated seaside resort of Sainte-Maxime (20km) is a lovely day out, reached through the mountain roads or via the coast passing the prestigious Beauvallon Golf Club (15km). Golf-lovers also note that Golf Club Saint-Tropez is under half an hour away by car.
For a change of scene, drive north towards the vineyards around Vidauban (22km), some wonderful canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Argens River and the very charming town of Lorgues (33km), home to one of the region’s best Provençal markets on a Tuesday morning.
Linking up to La Provençale motorway around 20km away, you could even head east towards Cannes and Antibes or west to Aix-en-Provence, all within a 90-minute drive.
