Set among beautiful countryside, with picturesque vineyards and pretty villages, we cannot recommend this area enough.
Monségur is a beautiful example of a bastide town, with plenty of shops, restaurants and supermarkets for you to enjoy. On Friday mornings, there is a weekly market where you can buy all sorts of local produce to cook in the villa’s fantastic kitchen. La Pièce De Boeuf is a favourite local restaurant, known for its locally grown and raised produce and lovely quaint interiors.
The larger town of La Réole is under a twenty-minute drive away. Dating back to the 12th century, this historic town is well worth the visit. As you amble around the narrow lanes, you will spot half-timbered houses and beautiful historic architecture. In the summer months of July and August, there are night markets in the town with delicious food stalls, good wine and live music, perfect for an atmospheric evening out.
The charming town of Duras also plays host to pleasant weekly night markets from July to early September, as well as more events throughout the year. Wine-lovers will also enjoy the inspiring Maison des Vins just to the south of the village whilst history lovers can visit the Château de Duras with its fascinating history dating back to the 12th century. Overflowing with cafes, restaurants an afternoon spent enjoying the towns delights would not go amiss.
For some outdoor adventures, you can head off on a canoeing trip in the Garonne and Dordogne rivers or explore this beautiful region via the many beautiful hiking and cycling trails and horse-riding. There are also golf courses scattered across the countryside. For families, the waterpark towards Bergerac, or the tree-top activity centre are a great choice.
Local wines and vineyards are an important part of any trip to the south of France! With Bordeaux so close, its world-renowned vineyards make for a great day out. You can arrange tours of the wineries and of the city itself, heading to La Cité du Vin or taking advantage of the vibrant restaurant scene. On top of its grapes, Bordeaux boasts amazing architecture and some of the brilliant museums.
