Located within one of Cancún’s most exclusive gated communities, Casa Retiro is an elegant and contemporary residence, spilling onto a secluded rear terrace where guests can enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Arranged over two levels, the interior is bright and spacious, with clean lines and smart furnishings that offer a stylish yet inviting space. On the ground floor, the L-shape plan creates an open-plan living space, with a generous dining area to one side, whilst to the other end, several large sofas offer a comfortable place to sit, inviting you to relax with a book or curl up for a movie in the evenings. Situated in the exclusive Playa Mujeres, the villa has access to a private beach where you can spend the day beside the sea, cooling off in the crystal clear water or taking a paddle-board out to explore the coastline. Part of an exclusive residence, guests also have access to various shared facilities, including a tennis court and a beach club where a number of water sports and activities can be enjoyed. For keen golfers, an impressive course can be found nearby, where you can enjoy a leisurely round, passing tropical lagoons and playing the stunning oceanfront holes.
 
Stretching up to the north, the Isla Blanca extends into a ribbon of unspoiled sands, with wild beaches to one side and the beautiful Chacmuchuch laguna to the other. Walk along the lapping, shallow water and spot the fly fisherman, or watch the kite-boarders sailing across the glistening surface. There are a number of Diving Centres offering lessons, or you can take a guided tour out to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef to see the beautiful underwater habitats. For those looking to stay above water, glass-bottomed boat tours offer trips out to the reef, and you can discover the colourful fish and grasses and spot the underwater sculptures created to facilitate the preservation of the natural coral.

Hop on a local ferry and take a day trip to the Isla Mujeres to see the idyllic tropical oasis. Historically serving as the sanctuary of the Mayan goddess Ixhel, the 5-mile-long island is now home to a vibrant coastal community with white sand beaches, colourful streets and a vibrant Caribbean culture. Guests can hire bikes to cycle from one end to the other or wander through the colourful town, stopping off for a cold beer and plate of freshly grilled fish. There are several great local cafés and restaurants serving up typical dishes or the catch of the day, or why not try the island’s iconic Tikin Xic fish, a traditional dish marinated with achiote and wrapped in banana leaves before grilling?
