Sitting in the Catalan countryside, El Gran Garraf enjoys an idyllic setting just moments from the national park. Moments away, an extensive network of tracks and trails invite guests to head out and explore the undulating landscape and limestone hills, whilst, with the nearest beaches just a short drive away, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sunny Mediterranean coast.
Spread over several thousand hectares, the park is unique, with deep gorges and hidden caves waiting to be discovered, or head into the forest to wander beneath the towering oaks and fragrant Aleppo pines. Olivella, a charming hillside village, is located within walking distance of the house and is a popular starting point for many hikes. A great circular route leads from here up to the remains of the ancient Castell Vell, from which you will be rewarded with spectacular views stretching down to the coast and across to Montserrat and the Pyrenees.
A short drive brings you to the coast and the historic town of Sitges, where the lively waterfront and creative culture offer plenty to explore. To the north of the old town, the Port de Sitges is an essential landmark on the Catalan coast, where you can stroll along the promenade, admiring beautiful yachts and fishing boats, or stop off for lunch at one of the waterside restaurants to enjoy a delicious plate of fresh seafood. An excellent option for sampling typical regional cuisine is La Taberna del Puerto, which serves a classic menu of local produce with favourites such as paella or braised rice with spider crab. There is little left of the Old Town, but you can wander through the fisherman’s quarter to discover the charming whitewashed houses with their ornate blue trim and stop to admire the splendid Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla Church. From the town, an attractive esplanade stretches along the coastline, hugging the back of the sandy bays. Playa Sant Sebastiá is an excellent swimming sport, and you can enjoy a dip in the clear blue sea before grabbing a bite to eat at one of the beachside restaurants.
For more energetic activities, various water sports and boat trips can be found operating out of the port, or hop in the car and head along the coast to discover Barcelona. Less than an hour’s drive, the waterfront city is brimming with culture, and there are endless points of interest to discover, from the dramatic Sagrada Familia to multiple art galleries and museums, as well as the back streets packed with friendly tapas and bars.
