Alang Villa in Cannes France
If the south of France is known for one thing, then it must be opulence. OK, maybe we can add to that a couple of other words- ‘serene’, ‘natural’ and ‘beauty’. But, nevertheless, when people think of this Gallic region the idea of luxury immediately springs to mind.
Few towns make this more abundantly clear than Cannes. Depending on when you visit there’s every chance you could be rubbing shoulders with the stars (the world famous film festival is perhaps the most iconic cinematic celebration in the world), or brushing up on the latest media and marketing trends (Cannes Lions in June). Either way, a discerning clientele have long favoured this place, and as such it was unsurprising to arrive at our temporary home from home to find the place looking truly pristine.
Situated in La Californie, which to many is the most prestigious part of Cannes and the surrounds, the first thing that’s impossible to miss is the stunning sea view. Surrounded by thick greenery, and perched on a hilltop, in the distance lies the city itself with its typical Mediterranean roofs clearly in sight. More striking than that, though, is the cobalt blue of the water, which although out of spitting distance, is close enough to make you yearn to take a dip, albeit a trip to the beach isn’t necessarily essential in order to freshen up.
Instead, after unpacking, we immediately opted for a splash in the heated 30m infinity pool, which finishes as the horizon begins, offering a fantastic vista of the entire area. Indeed, it’s difficult to imagine a more relaxing place to swim, although not nearly as difficult as it was removing ourselves from the water in order to go and do something. That said, our next activity only involved a few steps back into the villa in order to begin a game of billiards whilst projecting a movie on the in-house cinema screen.
Those after some more outdoor-related action won’t find themselves short for things to do, either. The beach is within easy reach by car, or even on foot if you’re keen on walking. Closer to the property, though, you have some four acres of wonderfully manicured gardens, which are home to a wealth of tropical vegetation that’s just crying out for a wander round, affording ample opportunity to soak in the peace and tranquility this corner of the Riviera offers.
Not bad for our first day, from hereon in during a seven day bout of R&R we discovered secluded bays in the nearby vicinity, spent time amongst the bright lights of Cannes itself, and didn’t want to get out of bed, such was the comfort evident in our room (one of five suites). This is all before we come to the swim up bar, with a view of that cinema screen, and our own resident chef, who lived up to his reputation for gastronomic excellence. Opulence, serenity, natural beauty and luxury, all in one address then; nothing could be more defining of the location.
