Holiday Home Rental Description
Maison Cognac is a cosy and charming Provençal farmhouse with four bedrooms, an inviting living space and an extensive garden with a swimming pool. From its woodland position in the Var department, you are ideally placed to enjoy a holiday in the Côte d’Azur region.
With its exposed beams, wooden floors and large fireplace, Maison Cognac enjoys a warm and welcoming country farmhouse ambience. It is very homey with traditional art and period accessories also adding touches of character. The kitchen is similarly traditional with plenty of wooden cupboards, a good range of appliances and shelves full of vintage pots, pans and plates. The living and dining areas are open-plan with doors opening to steps down to the garden.
There are four bedrooms in total, with a master, one double and two twin rooms to choose from. They are all charming with beams and other characterful features along with traditional furnishings.
The real magic at Maison Cognac happens outside however. Situated on the hillside and surrounded by woodland, the gardens are terraced. There are numerous relaxation spots for al-fresco dining and sundowners. The 15m x 7m pool is framed by sun loungers and set within lush greenery to create a truly inviting spot. At the far end, the pool house offers a summer kitchen and shaded al-fresco dining. It is a lovely sociable space which allows some guests to continue swimming while others cook. On the other side of the house there is another sun drenched terrace where you can also enjoy pre-dinner drinks.
The pretty hilltop village of Fayence is only 4km away and offers wonderful amenities. Less well-known than some of its neighbours, it has long been a secret destination for tourists thanks to its utterly charming streets lined with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also ancient churches and chapels and a clocktower with a viewing platform.
Grasse, known for its perfumes, can be reached in under an hour, while Frejus, with its amazing marina is also just 35km away from the house. Even closer is the delightful medieval village of Montauroux, full of artisan craft shops, and the beautiful Lac de St Cassien.
Sparkling Cannes and historic Antibes are definitely worth visiting on a day trip, in addition to Saint Tropez which, is just over an hour away and boasts stunning beaches, glamourous restaurants and exclusive summer beach bars.Maison Cognac enjoys a wonderful rural location close to the village of Fayence in the scenic Var department in the south of France. There are numerous hilltop towns and coastal towns/cities within close proximity, making this a superb base for exploring this magical area.
Though Fayence is less well-known than some of the French Riviera’s more popular destinations, it still has plenty to offer visitors. It enjoys traditional Provençal architecture and is surrounded by the Var countryside, brimming with oak forests, vineyards, lavender and olive groves. You will notice some ancient features as you wander through the village including an ancient communal bread oven dating from the 16th century and the 14th century entrance through the original ramparts, the Saracen Gate. There are ornate carvings in the stone lintels above doorways and many fountains, the 18th century Church of Saint Jean Baptiste and the Chapel Notre Dame des Cypres, the oldest Christian church in the area.
The town of Grasse is just 30km away. Originally known as a centre for leather tanners, this gave way to the production of perfume and today the International Museum of Perfume and four important perfume producers remain in the town. Grasse’s old town is a lovely place to wander around and is sprinkled with tall narrow houses that are painted in pastel orange tones plus lots of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Just 10km away, Seillans is a very pretty and quaint medieval village, classed as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. It can only be explored by foot thanks to its tiny winding lanes and alleys. Its main square, La Place du Thouron, is wonderfully shady with a couple of restaurants, an ideal stop for lunch.
From Maison Cognac, you can also take a drive along the winding roads up to Mons, one of the highest villages in the Var department with incredible panoramic mountain and sea views. Or, head south to Lac de Saint-Cassien, which is a lovely spot for long hikes, horse-riding, picnics on lakeside beaches and summer watersports with canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards as well as fishing. Those seeking other natural landscapes for outdoor activities should escape to the oak and pine forests covering so much of this area. You will discover many gorges, waterfalls and stone bridges along the Siagne river as well as fabulous cycling trails, bird-spotting opportunities and rock-climbing. Further afield you can spend the day canoeing, white-water rafting or just admiring the amazing vistas when visiting the Verdon Gorge.
Down by the coast you will find the wonderful town of Antibes, with its maze of flower-adorned streets, ancient buildings, museums, cafes, bars and restaurants. This popular town also boasts a traditional market and a busy port where luxury yachts mingle with colourful fishing boats. Picasso adored this area and featured Antibes in many of his paintings. Perched on the French Riviera between Cannes and Nice, Antibes is adjacent to Juan-les-Pins, a chic resort known for its seaside promenade. The modern part of town now stretches along the riviera and beyond the city limits and you can explore the stunning Cap d’Antibes, a lush wooded cape sprinkled with seaside mansions and beautiful walking trails.
The impressive city of Cannes is also a must-see with its glitzy bars and boutiques, famous La Croisette Boulevard, atmospheric markets and sandy beaches. Various boat trips also depart from its port, including ferries out to the beautiful Lérins Islands and excursions to Saint Tropez and Villefranche-sur-Mer.
