Set in acres of manicured grounds, this manor home near Ripon is an idyllic English escape. Flowerbeds burst with bloom and a perfect lawn stretches out before you, perfect for a game of cricket. Walled gardens hide herbs and shrubs and tea can be taken on the patio where plush rattan sofas, loungers and a dining table await. If the weather is fine, it’s time to fire up the barbecue.
Dating back to the 16th century, the manor is prim and proper inside, yet with a modern edge. Velvet sofas in the main lounge and modern artworks in the conservatory sitting room sit alongside original fireplaces and towering bookshelves. The flagstone-floored kitchen would be pure traditional farmhouse with its Aga at the centre, if not for pendant lamps and coffee machines bringing things into the 21st century. There’s plenty of room for the whole group to dine together in the formal dining room, illuminated by chandelier at night, and flooded with light from floor-to-ceiling Georgian windows by day. Bedrooms are big, bright and overlook the beautiful gardens, and we love the floral Victoriana wallpaper in some of the bathrooms.
