Barbados and its west coast around Holetown and Sandy Lane for calm seas and good restaurants, Saint Lucia for the Pitons and the north around Gros Islet, St Barts and Anguilla for beaches and French food, and Jamaica for golf around Montego Bay.
The west coast, and an island of fish fries
Most of our Barbados villas are on the west coast, in the parish of Saint James. On this side the sea is calm, the sand is pale and you can set your watch for dinner by the sunset. Holetown, where English settlers landed in 1627, has the restaurants and shops. Sandy Lane has the golf and the grandest houses. Speightstown, further north in Saint Peter, is older and quieter.
The east coast feels like a different island, with Atlantic rollers breaking at Bathsheba. On Friday nights a good part of the island drives south to the fish fry at Oistins. Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rainforest, peaks and a Friday street party
Saint Lucia is greener and steeper than Barbados. It is a volcanic island of rainforest and banana plantations, and the twin Pitons rise straight out of the sea near Soufrière, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our villas are mostly in the north, around Gros Islet and Rodney Bay with its marina and beaches, and in the hills above Castries.
The Friday night street party in Gros Islet is loud, cheerful and smells of grilled fish. Nearby, Pigeon Island has the ruins of a British fort, and on a clear day you can see Martinique from the top.

French lunches and British beaches
St Barts is small, French and very polished. In winter Gustavia's harbour fills with yachts, and the town's name is a leftover from nearly a century of Swedish rule. Lunch goes on for hours, the beaches are small and excellent, and New Year's Eve in the harbour is one of the great Caribbean nights.
Anguilla, a short hop away, is a flat, quiet British Overseas Territory with some of the finest sand in the region at Shoal Bay, Meads Bay and Long Bay. You reach both islands through St Maarten, by small plane or by boat.

Flying fish, jerk and a long dry winter
Every island eats in its own way. Barbados has flying fish and cou-cou, the national dish, best eaten in a rum shop. Jamaica has jerk and Blue Mountain coffee, and Grenada, the Spice Isle, smells of nutmeg. The dry season runs roughly from December to April, and that is when the islands are busiest. Hurricane season officially runs from June to November. In Barbados, Crop Over builds through the summer to Grand Kadooment in early August.
