A private villa with pool for six people, Villa Caio is beautiful, typically Mediterranean and it’s where you can call home during your holiday on the Costa Blanca. Airy and modern, all the accommodation is on one level. The three bedrooms each have air conditioning units which can be used at extra charge. Villa Caio generously has three fully tiled bathrooms and the bedrooms; one double and two twins, are simply decorated with cooling white walls and terracotta tiled floors.
The quaint lounge area enjoys the wonderful view from three pretty windows at the curved end of the villa and this connects to the open-plan dining space. Villa Caio has a relaxed and sociable feel to it, perfect for extended family groups or friends on holiday. The kitchen is again charming and well-appointed.
Venture outside through the patio door to the al fresco dining area. This shady covered terrace is hard to beat. The ceiling is beamed and the whitewashed walls are open and arched, framing the stunning view like a photograph. Imagine starting the day with breakfast out here, chatting with the family about whether to explore Calpe’s beaches, head off on a hiking trail, or just lounge around the pool.
The pool terrace is spacious, with plenty of room for you all to move your sun loungers to the perfect spot. If the Spanish sun becomes too much, take a cooling swim in your private pool or wash away the heat in the outdoor shower. Then settle back on your lounger for an afternoon siesta or retire to the shade with a book. You’ll be reluctant to leave Villa Caio, but the sights and sounds of Calpe await.
Less than ten minutes’ drive will bring you to the popular and fascinating resort of Calpe. As well as shops, amenities and nightlife, Calpe is also rich in wildlife, history and cuisine. Oh, and there’s a rather impressive rock on the beach!Known locally as Penon de Ifach, the towering limestone outcrop rising from Calpe’s coastline stands at 320 metres tall. It is possible to reach the summit, but unless you’re a fit and confident climber, the advice is to admire it from beach level. Everything Calpe has to offer is just five kilometres from Villa Caio.
Covering eleven kilometres, Calpe’s coastline is blessed with fourteen different beaches and coves. The two most central ones are wonderful and sandy and very popular in peak seasons. If you want somewhere quieter, head out of the centre and stop off along the coast road until you find that perfect hidden-away cove, ripe for exploring.
Calpe’s roots can be seen in the form of the old fishing port which sits alongside the modern marina, from where you can take a boat trip or try out windsurfing, water skiing, snorkelling or yachting. Or you could casually watch the nautical activity from one of the cafes or restaurants. You’ll find old happily rubbing up against new everywhere in Calpe. There’s lots of evidence of Calpe’s ancient past but it hasn’t stopped tourism developing the town into today’s thriving holiday destination. Historical must-sees are the Moorish quarter, Banos de la Reina where they are still unearthing Roman remains including sea water baths and the Moorish Castle.
Calpe also has a Saturday street market plus excellent shops. If you want to break up your day with lunch or dine out in the evening, you’ll find restaurants serving international as well as Spanish cuisine here. Local dishes typically include seafood and rice. Arroz a banda is rice and fish stew. And locally grown almonds make the delicious nougat which this region is famed for.
Along with the rest of the Costa Blanca, Calpe’s residents, visitors and the burgeoning fruit trees soak up the sun year-round. It has a wonderful climate, with on average eleven hours of sunshine a day during the summer.
