Villas in Moraira

A low-rise fishing town on the northern Costa Blanca

The northern Costa Blanca has kept a gentler side, and Moraira shows it best. The old fishing town still has a working harbour and an eighteenth-century castle on the seafront. It has stayed low-rise, and villas climb the pine-covered hills behind it instead. Long lunches, rocky coves and a Friday market are what fill most days.

Our Moraira collection runs to 210+ properties, mostly contemporary villas with private pools and sea views, plus a few apartments with shared pools near the town. They are spread across the hillsides between Cap d'Or and Benitachell, and the largest sleep big family parties.

Here is a guide to where to stay, when to go and how to spend the days.

The Town & the Port

A castle, a marina and a Friday morning

Moraira's castle was built in the eighteenth century to watch for Barbary pirates. Today it overlooks L'Ampolla beach and a seafront promenade lined with cafés. The marina is home to the yacht club, and the fishermen still bring in their catch beside it. Behind the front there is a compact centre of shops, tapas bars and restaurants, busy on summer evenings without ever feeling frantic.

On Friday mornings the weekly market fills the town with fruit, cheese, leather and linen, and it is worth arriving early. Villas on the slopes closest to town let you walk down for breakfast and take a taxi back up the hill after dinner.

The Coast

Coves, clear water and a walk to Cap d'Or

This is a coast of small bays rather than long resort beaches. El Portet is a sheltered horseshoe of sand with calm, clear water, and it is the favourite for families. Rockier coves such as Cala Andragó are better for snorkelling. From El Portet a steep path climbs through the pines to the old watchtower on Cap d'Or, with views towards the Peñón de Ifach.

A little north, in Benitachell, Cala del Moraig sits beneath high cliffs, with a sea cave you can explore on foot. The villas up here tend to be clifftop houses with long views out to sea.

Beyond Moraira

The Peñón, the vineyards and Teulada

Calpe is a short drive south. Its great limestone rock, the Peñón de Ifach, rises 332 metres from the sea and is protected as a natural park. Inland, the old town of Teulada keeps its stone church and quiet squares. Beyond it, the Jalón valley is a landscape of vineyards, almond terraces and bodegas, and a long Sunday lunch there is a local habit.

Jávea and Dénia are close as well, with the Montgó massif behind them and more coves to find along the coast.

Food & the Seasons

Rice, red prawns and a June battle on the beach

Lunch here means rice: arroz a banda cooked in fish stock, or arroz del senyoret with the shellfish already peeled. The red prawns of nearby Dénia are worth the price. Moscatel grapes have been grown in the Marina Alta for centuries, and you will see the arched riu-raus where they were once dried into raisins.

In June the town celebrates Moros y Cristianos, with parades, gunpowder and a mock Moorish landing on L'Ampolla beach at night. The sea is warm from June to October, and spring and autumn are lovely for walking. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, boat days and transfers.

Why book your Moraira villa with Excellence Luxury Villas

The right house, not the nearest one

Moraira's villas are scattered over steep hillsides, and we know which ones let you walk down to El Portet or the town and which need a car for every trip. With 210+ properties in Moraira, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.

Book direct

You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.

A concierge who knows the territory

Restaurant reservations, boat charters along the coves, a private chef, wine tours in the Jalón valley, car hire and transfers from Alicante or Valencia. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.

A house for every kind of party

Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
