This charismatic home is cleverly designed to maximise both space and light; it offers a tranquil haven which is nonetheless on the very doorstep of one of London’s most buzzing areas where centuries-old history mingles with dynamic modern life.Marlowe is ideally located, just a short distance from the centre of London with so much on offer on its doorstep. The street still has an original neighbourhood appeal, with traditional “old school” style pubs and cafes, there is a sense of local life. Earls Court station is just moments away for hopping onto the tube or bus.
So much can be accessed on foot from Marlowe, so be prepared to bring some decent walking shoes! Around South Kensington station, there is a pedestrianised area very popular with tourists which offers a huge choice of local eateries, whether it be a quick coffee and cake pit stop, pizza on the go, or a sit down meal, the choices are endless.
This vibrant area is home to some of London’s finest museums: the V&A, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum; guests should time their visits around off peak times to avoid the school holiday crush!
As well as the world renowned museums, there are many, fascinating and intriguing lesser known museums and galleries. The Design Museum is set in a grade ll listed building in Kensington High Street; the building has been transformed by a team led by the well known architect John Pawson – from fashion to furniture, from product to graphic design, this is an international designers’ hub.
Eighteen Stafford Terrace is just a few moments walk away, for a virtually untouched and immaculately preserved slice of Victorian living, one of the only genuine Victorian townhouses remaining, it has become something of a hidden national treasure.
Located on the edge of Holland Park, Leighton House Museum is one of the most opulent museums in London; the ornate nineteenth century home of Lord Leighton is decorated with domed ceilings, gilded walls, flamboyant artwork and fountains. This is a small scale museum which makes for a nice afternoon’s activity, whilst Holland Park itself is small, little known by tourists, and offers something of a secret escape into woodlands, wild ponds and pavilions; set in one of London’s most elegant areas, it makes for a romantic stroll or day out as a family.
High Street Kensington is just moments away, which offers a wide array of high street boutiques and a flagship Whole Foods store, whilst Notting Hill is a short bus ride up the road, and for a treat, The Orangery at Kensington Palace Gardens offers an unapologetically decadent and elegant dining experience!
Hyde Park, a true wonder during every season, and the Serpentine Gallery are just a walk away, whilst stopping off at The Mess for a light lunch or some rather smart poached eggs will be a lot of fun.
For an authentic, cosy pub experience, The Devonshire Arms on Marlowe itself offers the ultimate London experience: exposed brick walls and lavish crimson upholstered interiors, with deep mahogany flooring, visitors will enjoy the gastropub menu of burgers and steaks, and in the summer the garden is brimming with locals enjoying a post work cooling beer or catching up with friends.
Marlowe, is set back from the bustling, tourist hotspots, within classical London tree lined tranquillity, offering the very best of a local neighbourhood, along with endless opportunities just a few moments beyond in the heart of London’s Royal Borough where both modern culture and history jostle side by side.
