Vista do Castelo is situated in the beautiful, historic town of Lisbon, right next to São Jorge Castle. Lisbon is the largest city in Portugal and the second oldest European capital. This hilly city boasts plenty of historical sites and white sandy beaches, it has a mild climate making it enjoyable all year round. The apartment is located 7.5 kilometres from the city’s main airport, Lisbon Portela Airport. Vista do Castelo has a light and modern décor inside and a more traditional and characterful area outside. Due to its central location, this apartment is a great base from which to explore the city, it is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and public transport stops so everything is easily accessible. The property can accommodate up to 6 guests, so it is the perfect size for a family vacation, a couples retreat or a friends getaway. This property is located on the 5th floor, which gives you stunning views of the river and city. As you enter the apartment you will find yourself in a modern and spacious hallway with a double-seater sofa and storage, from this area you can access all other rooms. There are three light and airy bedrooms, two with queen size beds and one with twin beds, and there are two traditional tiled bathrooms to share with bath and shower facilities. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to use if you fancy staying in and having a go at cooking a traditional Portuguese meal. The spacious and contemporary living room has a dining area and lounge great for spending some time together, from here you can access the balcony, which offers more lovely views. The outside area of this apartment is a fantastic perk and a rare find in the city centre. This private area has a small garden and patio with an outdoor dining table and barbecue. The large stone castle walls and traditional Portuguese paving give this area lots of character, from here you can admire the city and river vistas – a lovely space to relax and enjoy those long summer evenings. There is a baby cot available, and there is free Wi-Fi access throughout the property.Vista do Castelo’s central location is fantastic for exploring the city. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and supermarkets in the surrounding area and public transport stops dotted all around to take you where you need to go. The apartment is located right next to the highest hill in Lisbon, on top of this hill you will find São Jorge Castle, this stunning castle stands out from the cityscape. Enjoy exploring the courtyards lined with pine trees and walking along the castle walls and towers where you can admire the breathtaking views. To reach this area, why not take one of Lisbon’s iconic yellow trams! Take the time to visit the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: The beautiful 16th century Limestone Belém Tower was designed in the iconic Manueline style, the tower is located on the riverfront as it was originally built as a defence structure. And the impressive Jerónimos Monastery designed in the same style which took a century to complete, take some time to admire the ornate spires and carvings on this 16th century building. Here you will also find the tombs of the famous explorer Vasco da Gama and the famous poet Luís de Camões. While in the area make sure you stop at o Padrão dos Descobrimentos, this dramatic monument was erected in 1960 in honour of Prince Henry the navigator and commemorates Portuguese discoveries and explorations. Head to the top of the monument for the scenic views. A 10-minute walk from the apartment is Lisbon’s grandest plaza, Praça do Comércio. This large square has a beautiful archway entrance and traditional Portuguese cobblestones, on three sides it is surrounded by yellow classical buildings and arcades with the south side opening to the Tagus River. In the centre you will find a statue of Dom José I. Take some time to take in this majestic historical place. The nearest beach is Algés not far from Belém Tower. This beach has white sand and calm water and is quieter than the most popular beaches, it is bathed by the Tagus river and is a good spot for fishing, it has a long promenade for a nice scenic stroll. If you want a more tourist-friendly beach, then Carcavelos beach is a little further out and can be reached by public transport or taxi. Carcavelos is the largest and most popular beach in the area, it has a sandy shore and is a great place to surf. Just be mindful that the sea can be a little choppy for swimming, there are lifeguards on duty. Along the promenade, you will find several bars and cafes, and from the beach you will be able to see the impressive Fort of São Julião da Barra. While in Lisbon don’t forget to try the delicious Pastéis de Belém, a Portuguese custard tart, with a coffee and listen to some traditional Fado music, known for its expressive melancholic style.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
