From the moment you arrive at this six bedroom wonder, you will feel a joyful sense of calm and serenity.
Within seconds, you will gain a feeling for the love and dedication poured into this magnificent property. The owners first fell in love with the old wooden Thai houses of Bangkok back in 2001 when they married at The Jim Thompson House Museum in the city. In 2015, they discovered dilapidated wooden stilt houses standing precariously in the water while on a canal boat trip but, despite trying to contact the owners there and then, it wasn’t until the following year that they walked through thickets of overgrowth to discover these wonderful buildings with their beautiful old wooden panels and glorious Thai roof arches that belonged to a bygone era. The rest is history and much of the old wood, windows and doors have been re-used and upcycled in this totally unique holiday home, the only one of its kind.
Siri Sala is comprised of three separate Thai houses called ‘ruen’, Ruen Bangkok Noi and Ruen Hor offer one bedroom each and Ruen Siri boasts four bedrooms. They are enveloped with stunning gardens, a fabulous saltwater swimming pool and the glorious Heritage House for the exclusive use of Siri Sala’s guests. Along with sensational living and sleeping spaces, guests enjoy sublime concierge services and can explore fantastic dining opportunities, wellness treatments, superb Thai experiences and wonderful cultural and shopping tours. Resident chefs create customised menus for every guest’s stay, offering passionate Thai cooking, Western menus and kids menus. The experiences on offer allow you to connect to the local people, their culture, food and practices and include daily offerings to the Spirit House where animism and folk beliefs are deeply infused with Buddhism, morning alms and offerings at the nearby Wat Suwanaram Temple or receiving monks at the villa, Thai crafts including arranging and folding lotus flowers and Thai cooking classes. For wellness treats, spa therapists can visit you in the villa to offer indulgent foot massages, Thai massage and aromatherapy oil massages. Yoga instructors can give relaxing yoga sessions in the semi-shaded courtyards or mats can be provided. Those fascinated by the ancient sport of Muay Thai can be taught this martial art with a private instructor. In addition, there are some excellent gym essentials available. Guided trips offered incuding curated boat tours when you will learn about Bangkok Noi and its ancient history dating back to the Ayutthaya period on the Chao Phraya River. You can also visit major landmarks and hidden gems with guides including The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Suwannaram, Wat Ratcha Oroth, the National Museum of Bangkok and The Jim Thompson House Museum. Otherwise, you can be guided around the colourful Or Tor Kor market, the Chatuchak weekend market, the Platinum Mall in Pratunam or through Yaowarat, Bangkok’s Chinatown.
Siri Sala boasts a range of thoughtfully designed rooms, each a sanctuary of comfort and elegance. The rooms are tastefully furnished with meticulous attention to every detail and a harmonious fusion of contemporary and traditional Thai accents. The villa’s semi-outdoor living room evokes the relaxed lifestyle of Thais who live in traditional houses on stilts. It is a stunning room, bathed in the unique sparkle of Thai light, boasting sumptuous furnishings, gorgeous accessories, oversized artworks, characterful beams and wonderful garden views. With its rich dark wood, the library is a very special place that showcases antique furniture, much of which belonged to the original family that lived on the site for over one hundred years. Guests can browse a carefully curated selection of books on Thai culture and history, play board games and relax in a beautiful setting. The dining room enjoys a fabulous old teak table that stretches over six metres made from the original teak floorboards that once braced the original Thai house in the same spot. The amazing kitchen comes with amber coloured glass, wood and net screens that pay tribute to the way Thai food was often stored in cupboards. It is a fully modernised space with outstanding appliances including Smeg stove tops and ovens and a wine fridge. It is perfect for private cooking classes.
The bedrooms of Siri Sala are blissful. Ren Bangkok Noi takes inspiration from the oldest house of the original property with spectacular, hand-painted murals. It boasts a beautifully dressed kingsize bed, a fully stocked mini bar, a sublime river front location and an ensuite bathroom featuring an ong and Khunn, a water jar and bucket for guests to experience a refreshing shower the traditional way. The gorgeous Ruen Hor is also known as the wedding suite. It was presented to the original owner on her wedding day and comes with exquisite rejuvenated original pieces of furniture, turquoise accents, hand-painted murals of love and family, a smart ensuite with a bath and shower and another lavish kingsize bed. Ruen Siri offers four bedrooms, one on the first floor and three on the second. It also offers a delightful living and dining space. On the first floor, Ruen Siri Rudee is just fabulous with stylish furnishings, twins or a super kingsize bed, an outdoor bath and shower and plenty of space. Upstairs, Ruen Siri San, Ruen Kasem and Ruen Siri Suk all offer flexible sleeping, river views, ensuite bathrooms and warm, inviting ambiences.
There is no end to the beauty at Siri Sala. The gardens have been designed to highlight the abundance of Thai heritage. You will discover colourful plants and flowers and a long list of herbs chosen to provide sustenance including chilis, basil, limes and lemongrass that are used in the dining menus. The lotuses and native floras are used for decoration throughout the villa. The villa’s twenty metre saltwater pool overlooks the peaceful canals, a fabulous location for a spot of switch off. The courtyard is a delightful open air space that connects the living room and dining room, enjoying a cool breeze, two natural ponds and the harmonious soundtrack of birdsong. Heritage House is located just to the right of the villa, constructed with wooden panels from the old property. Siri Sala is accessible by road and water. It is lovely to arrive via boat through Khlong Bangkok Noi. It is easy to understand why Bangkok was once called the ‘Venice of the Orient’.
