Villa Paonne is located on the edge of Le Plan-de-la-Tour, a picturesque village in the Maures hills a short drive from Plage de Grimaud (11km) and Saint-Tropez (18km). Both Toulon Hyères Airport (57km) and Nice Airport (95km) are just over an hour away or arrive via TGV train at Les Arcs-Draguignan (33km) or Saint-Raphaël Valescure (35km).
In an attractive setting in one of Le Plan-de-la-Tour’s hamlets, the village centre is just a 2km drive away, nestled in the Maures massif surrounded by vineyards and forests of oak, chestnut and cork trees. It’s such a pretty village to wander around – come across the shady main square with plane trees where the weekly market takes place on a Thursday morning, then explore little shops, café terraces, restaurants, old houses and fountains as you soak up its delightful ambience reminiscent of Provence.
There are many glorious walking trails from the village as well as opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding across the beautiful landscapes of the Maures hills.
Following the winding road towards the coast, detour to the picture-perfect village of Grimaud (12km) on a hilltop overlooking Saint-Tropez bay. Continue on to visit Port Grimaud (11km), often referred to as the ‘little Venice of the Côte d’Azur’ with its colourful houses, bridges and canals. Dine in one of the canalside restaurants followed by a boat tour and look out for the delightful Monday evening market in the height of the summer. Meanwhile, the popular Plage de Grimaud (11km) offers sandy shores and seasonal watersports.
Experience the glamour of Saint-Tropez (17km), a former fishing village and now one of the French Riviera’s most desired destinations. Admire yachts in the marina, upmarket boutiques and high-end restaurants alongside a charming old quarter and bustling twice-weekly market. Avoid the summer traffic by arriving via ferry from Sainte-Maxime.
Sainte-Maxime (11km) itself is a lovely seaside resort with fantastic beaches including Plage de la Nartelle (13km) just north of the town, popular with watersport enthusiasts. Golf lovers can tee off at Golf Bluegreen (14km) or Beauvallon Golf Club (12km) and there are some wonderful coastal hiking opportunities around Sainte-Maxime (and between Saint-Tropez and La Croix Valmer).
For a change of scene, embrace the Provençal surroundings of the Côte d’Azur hinterland as you head inland towards the Dracénie region. Visit iconic vineyards and wine châteaux near the market village of Lorgues (35km), canoe or kayak along the Argens River near Vidauban (24km) or you could even venture as far as the Verdon Gorge, less than two hours away by car.
