This mid-century architectural project turned desert hideaway has us longing to create. Set high above the desert floor, with breathtaking vistas, reaching as far as the San Joaquin Mountains, it’s the sort of place where writers and artists retreat to find their flow.
The original design prototype had a pioneering metal canopy system, with canvas curtains which used to completely close around the house – which explains the oversized roof. It’s still a totally unique space today, with huge windows flooding the rooms with warm light. The interior has been carefully curated to spark inspiration, with a bohemian mix of canvases, ceramics and macramé artworks. But with all the arty vibes, there is still plenty of space to snuggle up and enjoy relaxing, comfy evenings and movie nights. Should the chill of the desert night catch you by surprise, there is a fireplace for extra cosiness.
Staying here, you’ll be able to indulge in blissful seclusion, with just one other, similarly stylish house, in the neighbourhood. With the awe-inspiring landscapes spreading out in every direction, and with the Joshua Tree National Park just twenty minutes away, this is an ideal location for a truly inspirational Western experience. In the evening, why not step outside and gaze up into the starry sky – or better still, do so while soaking in the hot tub, with a glass of something cold and delicious.
