Ang Thong gained fame when it featured in the novel ‘The Beach’ by Alex Garland though the film starring Leonardo Di Caprio was filmed on Koh Phi Phi Leh. Ang Thong features some of the most unusual and spectacular scenery in Thailand with limestone cliffs up to 400m, forests teeming with wildlife, inland saltwater lagoons and stunning beaches.The beaches of Koh Samui are gorgeous and include the picturesque Ngam Beach, the tranquil Lamai Beach, the beautiful Maenam Beach, Chaweng Noi Beach on the doorstep of Vana Belle and the lengthy main Cheweng Beach. Chaweng Beach boasts lively beach parties, water parks, mini golf, cocktail bars and restaurants.
Some of the island’s cultural gems are hidden within the lush jungle interior. The hilltop Chedi offers stunning views of the surrounding lush jungle and the nearby islands. Namuang Waterfalls are a must visit with purple hued rocks and fabulous water to soak in.
The golden Big Budda is Koh Samui’s most famous landmark. It is situated in the grounds of the Wat Phra Yai Temple. There are many colourful stands surrounding the Big Budda selling souvenirs and street food. The Wat Khunaran Temple boasts mummified monks displayed in caskets surrounded by flowers, candles, incense sticks and fruit offerings.
