Apartments in the city's best neighbourhoods, from the museums of Mitte to the leafy squares of Prenzlauer Berg
As featured in
Berlin works best if you live in it for a week rather than tick it off in a weekend. Its history is all around you, from the Brandenburg Gate to the stretches of Wall that still stand. Its museums are among the finest in Europe. And the real pleasure is the neighbourhood life: Saturday markets, corner cafés and long summer evenings by the canal.
Our Berlin collection runs to 33 apartments in Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, Neukölln, Friedrichshain, Schöneberg and beyond. Several have balconies or terraces, and some are in handsome nineteenth-century buildings of the kind Berliners call Altbau. They range from a one-bedroom for two to family apartments with up to 5 bedrooms.
Here is a guide to the neighbourhoods, the seasons and getting around.

Mitte is where most first visits begin, and it's the easiest base if you want to walk to the main sights. Museum Island sits in the Spree and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with five museums. Nefertiti is in the Neues Museum. Unter den Linden runs west to the Brandenburg Gate, and the glass dome of the Reichstag is free to visit if you register in advance.
Around Hackescher Markt the streets get narrower and the courtyards fill with galleries, small shops and good restaurants. Gendarmenmarkt, with its two matching churches and the concert hall between them, is lovely in the evening.

Prenzlauer Berg came through the war better than most of the city, so its streets of restored nineteenth-century buildings are some of the handsomest in Berlin. Kollwitzplatz, a leafy square with playgrounds, holds a market on Saturdays, and the cafés around it fill up early.
On Sundays the flea market at Mauerpark draws half the city, and in summer there's open-air karaoke in the amphitheatre. Families tend to love it here: it's calm and green, and the trams take you straight into Mitte.

Neukölln is where much of Berlin's best eating and drinking happens now, along the Landwehr Canal and the streets nearby. Look for Rixdorf, a village of old Bohemian cottages tucked inside the city, and the formal sunken garden of Körnerpark. Close by, Tempelhofer Feld is a former airport that Berliners have turned into a huge park for cycling, kites and picnics on the runways.
In Friedrichshain, the East Side Gallery is the longest surviving stretch of the Wall, covered in murals. To the west, Schöneberg is quieter and more grown up, with the Winterfeldtplatz market and the food hall at KaDeWe.

Berlin eats well and without fuss. There's currywurst from a street stand, döner kebabs worth the queue, Kaffee und Kuchen in the afternoon, and a large, inventive restaurant scene from simple bistros to tasting menus.
The best months are May to September, when the beer gardens open and the city goes out to swim in the lakes at Wannsee and Müggelsee. The Berlinale film festival takes over the city in February, and from late November the Christmas markets fill the squares with Glühwein and roasted almonds. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, museum tickets and private guides, and arrange a day trip to the palaces of Potsdam.

Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.

May to September is the best time, with beer gardens, lake swimming and long evenings. December brings the Christmas markets, and February brings the Berlinale film festival. Winters are cold, but the museums and restaurants are at their cosiest then.
No. The U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams cover the city well and run late, and Berlin is flat and easy to cycle. A car is only really useful for day trips into the Brandenburg countryside.
