Villas and sea-view apartments among the granite and juniper of Gallura, from Porto Cervo to San Teodoro
As featured in
The north of Sardinia is Gallura, a land of wind-carved granite, cork oaks and maquis scented with myrtle, which falls to a coastline of coves and sandbars that the rest of the Mediterranean struggles to match. The Aga Khan saw it in the early 1960s and created the Costa Smeralda. The fishing coves and shepherds' villages around it have kept their own way of doing things.
Our North Sardinia collection runs to 47 properties, from sea-view villas with infinity pools above Porto Cervo and Cala di Volpe to countryside villas near Arzachena and San Pantaleo, and apartments with pools and beach access around Olbia, San Teodoro and Costa Paradiso. The largest have 7 bedrooms.
Here is a guide to the coast, the hinterland and the best months to come.

Porto Cervo is the Costa Smeralda's harbour village, with superyachts in the marina, a piazzetta of boutiques and the little white church of Stella Maris, which holds a painting attributed to El Greco. Villas on the hills around Cala di Volpe look out over some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean.
Inland, San Pantaleo sits beneath the granite peaks of Cugnana. Its Thursday morning market, held through the summer season, draws people from all along the coast for linen, ceramics, pecorino and an espresso in the square.

South of Olbia the coast is gentler and more relaxed. Murta Maria and Porto San Paolo face Tavolara, a sheer limestone island at the heart of a protected marine area, and boats leave Porto San Paolo for its beaches through the summer.
Further south, San Teodoro has La Cinta, a long white sandbar with flamingos in the lagoon behind it, and Lu Impostu, shallow and turquoise, a favourite with families. North of Olbia, Bados and the coast towards Golfo Aranci have quieter coves within minutes of the airport.

Around Arzachena, the Bronze Age left nuraghi and the great stone Tombs of the Giants, such as Coddu Vecchju, among the vineyards. From Palau, a ferry of around twenty minutes crosses to La Maddalena, a national park of granite islands best explored by boat.
On the north-west coast, Rena Majore has a long beach backed by dunes, and Costa Paradiso is all red granite, small coves and snorkelling water. Santa Teresa Gallura, with its ferries to Bonifacio in Corsica, is close by.

Gallura makes Vermentino di Gallura, Sardinia's only DOCG wine, crisp and saline and made for a plate of grilled fish. Try zuppa gallurese, a baked dish of bread, cheese and broth far richer than it sounds, then porceddu, seadas with bitter honey and a glass of mirto to finish.
July and August are hot and busy on the Costa Smeralda. June and September are warmer in the sea and calmer on the roads, and September brings the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup to Porto Cervo. Our concierge can arrange boats, tables and winery visits.

Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.
You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.
Boat charters to La Maddalena and Tavolara, restaurant tables in Porto Cervo, Vermentino tastings in Gallura, a private chef, car hire and transfers from Olbia. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Porto Cervo and the Costa Smeralda suit those who want yachts, beach clubs and restaurants. San Pantaleo and Arzachena offer countryside villas a short drive from the sea, San Teodoro and the Olbia coast are relaxed and good for families, and Costa Paradiso is quieter and wilder.
June to September is the main beach season, with July and August the hottest and busiest. June and September are often the best balance of warm sea and fewer people, and May and October suit walking and exploring.
