Villaggio Mespilus Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
With views of organic vineyards and olive groves dotted over the hills near Lucca, this gorgeous estate welcomes you to experience the charm of Tuscany in such a beautiful yet relaxed setting, ideal for a holiday with friends, extended family getaway or laidback Italian wedding.
Villaggio Mespilus is a collection of three self-contained houses that can be rented exclusively to make the most of the glorious swimming pool and fantastic facilities. Look out for natural materials such as terracotta floors, wood beamed ceilings and traditional brickwork and some of the kitchens and bathrooms feature marble and stone. Characterful touches add to the Tuscan ambience whilst the welcoming owners, who discreetly live on site, take great pride in the estate’s environmental credentials from saving rainwater to take care of the pretty gardens to other natural and energy saving methods.
Guests can gather together by the 17m long salt-water swimming pool, which can be heated on request, where there’s ample space to dine al-fresco by the woodfired pizza oven and barbecue – you could even hire your own pizza chef for the evening. By the pool there’s a wonderful communal space with table football, pool, a bar and kitchen and lots of room to relax or head down to the Turkish sauna, shower and fitness room where there’s an underwater view of the swimming pool!
The magic of Lucca awaits, only 10km away, where you can soak up the romance of this enchanting Renaissance town as you explore its winding lanes – it’s often referred to Tuscany’s most beautiful town with good reason. Admire picture-perfect views of Lucca’s rooftops from Torre Guinigi and don’t miss the historic city walls where locals walk, jog or cycle.
The grand cities of Florence and Pisa can also be visited for a superb day out, as can pretty Tuscan villages and towns such as Collodi, Porcari and Montecatini Terme. For a complete change of scene, experience the seaside vibe of Viareggio, only half an hour away, head north to the romantic Golfo dei Poeti coastline or even as far as the Cinque Terre National Park – La Spezia, the gateway to this incredible region, is just over an hour away. Near Lucca, Villaggio Mespilus is surrounded by beautiful landscapes of northern Tuscany and only a 45-minute drive from Pisa Airport.
Set just off a country road, you can try the DOC wine and Lucca olive oil that is produced from neighbouring organic vineyards and olive groves. There are also two excellent restaurants a short drive away which are renowned for their Tuscan cuisine.
It’s wonderful to be so close to Lucca, only 10km by car, a historic gem that many refer to as Tuscany’s most beautiful town. The old quarter is exquisite with its winding lanes and pretty squares – climb to the top of Torre Guinigi for views of the terracotta rooftops. Head to the city walls and hire bikes to cycle along the 4km path, stopping off for picnics or playgrounds en route.
Of course, Pisa (25km) is also close enough for a fine day out whether you wish to admire the Leaning Tower or just soak up the vibrant riverside ambience. Florence is a 90-minute drive away, perhaps stopping off in the pretty village of Vinci en route, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci.
The picturesque Tuscan town of Montecatini Terme (41km) is also worthy of a visit with its spas, boutiques and fine architecture, then take the old-fashioned funicular up to its hilltop village above, Montecatini Alto. The village of Collodi is another Tuscan jewel, home to the ruins of a medieval castle, cascading houses and visitor attractions such as the Butterfly House, Villa Garzoni with its ornate Italian gardens and the much-loved Pinocchio Park.
Make the most of many excellent outdoor activities across this region from kayaking in Garfagnana, wildlife spotting in the Padule di Fucecchio wetlands, hiking through the Apuan Alps as well as ample horse-riding, cycling and mountain biking opportunities across northern Tuscany and beyond.
The coast is also so close – Viareggio and its blue-flagged beaches are merely half an hour by car with Forte dei Marmi a little further. Crossing the border into Liguria, the Golfo dei Poeti offers spectacular coastal scenery with idyllic bays and gorgeous villages whilst La Spezia (83km), the gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park, and Porto Venere (96km) are also easily reached for the most amazing day out admiring this UNESCO World Heritage site.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
