Apartments and townhouses between Little Venice and Hyde Park, fifteen minutes from Heathrow
As featured in
Paddington is best known for its station, which Isambard Kingdom Brunel built under a great iron and glass roof in 1854, and for the small bear from darkest Peru who was found on one of its platforms. Walk five minutes from the concourse, though, and you reach something quieter: the Grand Union Canal, narrowboats moored at Little Venice and the white stucco terraces of Maida Vale and Bayswater.
Our Paddington collection runs to 50+ homes. Most are apartments in handsome Victorian terraces and modern canalside buildings, with a few townhouses and a house with a walled garden near Little Venice. The largest has 7 bedrooms.
It is one of the most practical places in London to stay, and a good deal more pleasant than its reputation suggests. Here is how to make the most of it.

Little Venice is where the Regent's Canal meets the Paddington arm of the Grand Union, a triangle of water lined with willows, houseboats and tall white villas. Robert Browning lived beside it, and the Puppet Theatre Barge has been staging shows on a converted Thames barge here for decades.
From the pool, narrowboat trips run east along the Regent's Canal through the Maida Hill tunnel and past London Zoo to Camden Lock, which is the most civilised way we know to cross north London. Closer to the station, Paddington Basin has cafés on the water and Thomas Heatherwick's Rolling Bridge, which curls itself up into an octagon.

The station rewards a proper look. Brunel's three-span roof still covers the platforms, and a bronze of Paddington Bear sits on the concourse for children to admire. Michael Bond published the first Paddington book in 1958.
Round the corner on Praed Street, St Mary's Hospital is where Alexander Fleming noticed, in 1928, that a mould had killed the bacteria in one of his dishes. His small laboratory has been preserved as the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum, a modest room with a very large story.

Head south through Bayswater's stucco squares and you reach Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens within a short walk, with the Italian Gardens, the Serpentine and the Diana Memorial Playground all on the way to Kensington Palace. For families, this is Paddington's great advantage.
Notting Hill and the Saturday market on Portobello Road are a short ride west, and Marylebone High Street is easily reached to the east. The Elizabeth line, meanwhile, puts Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and the City within a few minutes.

Edgware Road, on Paddington's eastern edge, has long been London's best street for Lebanese and Middle Eastern cooking, with grills and juice bars open late. Little Venice and Paddington Basin have canalside pubs and cafés for something gentler.
London works in every season, but late spring is a fine time to come. Over the early May bank holiday weekend the Canalway Cavalcade fills Little Venice with decorated narrowboats, live music and an illuminated boat procession after dark. Summer brings long evenings in Hyde Park, and winter brings the lights of the West End. Our concierge can book tables, theatre tickets, canal trips and Heathrow transfers.
