Villas in Adeje

Winter sun on the south-west coast of Tenerife

Most people know Adeje by its coast. Costa Adeje is the smartest stretch of southern Tenerife, a run of golden beaches, a marina and good hotels looking across the water to La Gomera. Climb a few kilometres inland and you reach the town of Adeje itself, older and quieter, with a sixteenth-century church, a fortified manor house and a ravine walk that ends at a waterfall.

Our Adeje collection runs to 38 villas, from contemporary houses on the hillsides above the beaches to rural fincas with more land around them. Several have private pools, and the largest sleep sizeable family parties.

Here is how the municipality fits together, and what to do once the sunbed loses its charms.

Where to stay in Adeje

Costa Adeje for beaches, restaurants and the marina at Puerto Colón, La Caleta for a quieter seafront with fish lunches, and the hills above the old town for space and views.

Costa Adeje

Golden sand, a marina and a fishing village

The coast runs from Puerto Colón, where the whale-watching boats leave, past the beaches of Torviscas and Fañabé to Playa del Duque, the most polished of them. The water is calm, the promenade is long and flat, and you can walk a good stretch of it before lunch.

La Caleta, just beyond, began as a fishing village and still has the feel of one. Its seafront restaurants are where locals go for grilled fish and a bottle of something cold, and villas on the slopes behind give you the coast without the crowds.

The Old Town

Calle Grande and the Gorge of Hell

Adeje town climbs a hillside above the coast. Calle Grande, its main street, leads up to the church of Santa Úrsula and the Casa Fuerte, a fortified house from the days of the sugar estates. On Good Friday the same street becomes the stage for La Pasión, a midday Passion play performed by hundreds of townspeople and broadcast live on Canarian television.

At the top of town starts the Barranco del Infierno, a protected ravine with a trail of around 6.5 kilometres there and back, ending at a waterfall nearly 200 metres high, the tallest on the island. Numbers are limited, helmets are compulsory and you have to book ahead, which our concierge can do for you.

Teide, whales and a ferry to La Gomera

Mount Teide, at 3,715 metres the highest peak in Spain, rises in the centre of the island, and its national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The drive up from Adeje takes you through pine forest into a lunar landscape, and the cable car goes most of the way to the summit.

Pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live in the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera all year, so a morning on the water from Puerto Colón rarely disappoints. La Gomera itself is a ferry ride from neighbouring Los Cristianos, and it makes a good, green day out.

Food & the Seasons

Wrinkled potatoes and a winter in shirtsleeves

Canarian cooking is simple and very good. Order papas arrugadas, small potatoes boiled in salty water until their skins wrinkle, served with red and green mojo sauces, and follow them with grilled local fish and smoked goat's cheese. Malvasía wines from the island's volcanic vineyards go well with all of it.

The south-west is the sunniest, driest side of Tenerife, and winter days are usually comfortable for the beach, so Adeje works in any month. Easter and the British school holidays fill up quickly. Our concierge can book whale-watching trips, gorge permits, restaurant tables and transfers.

Why book your Adeje villa with Excellence Luxury Villas

The right house, not the nearest one

Adeje runs from beachfront streets to steep hillsides and rural fincas inland, and we know which villas are within walking distance of the sea and which need a car. With 38 properties in Adeje, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.

Book direct

You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.

A concierge who knows the territory

Transfers from Tenerife South, whale and dolphin trips from Puerto Colón, Barranco del Infierno permits, Teide excursions, restaurant reservations and car hire. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.

A house for every kind of party

Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to stay in Adeje?

Costa Adeje, around Playa del Duque and Fañabé, puts you closest to the beaches, restaurants and shops. La Caleta is quieter with a more local seafront, and villas in the hills above the old town offer more space and wide views of the sea and La Gomera.

When is the best time to visit Adeje?

Adeje is a year-round destination. Winter is the most popular season with British visitors for its warmth, spring and autumn suit walking and the Barranco del Infierno, and summer is hot and busy with families.

Do I need to book the Barranco del Infierno walk?

Yes. Visitor numbers are limited, so advance booking is compulsory, and walkers have to wear helmets and proper footwear. Morning slots sell out first in high season, so our concierge can reserve places as soon as you book your villa.

Can you arrange a private chef at a villa in Adeje?

Yes. Our concierge can arrange a private chef for a single dinner or your whole stay, along with cookery lessons, guided visits, transfers and restaurant reservations.

How much does a luxury villa in Adeje cost?

Across our 38 villas in Adeje, weekly rates typically range from £2,900 to £6,400, with the most affordable from around £2,400 a week and the largest estates well above. Prices depend on the size of the property, its location and the season, with July and August the most expensive. These are guide prices based on current listings; each property page shows its own rates for your dates.

Which airport is closest to Adeje?

Tenerife South airport is the closest, usually around 20 minutes by road from Costa Adeje. Tenerife North airport is on the other side of the island and is a much longer drive. Our concierge can arrange transfers.

Are there villas in Adeje for large groups?

Yes. Our Adeje collection includes properties with up to 8 bedrooms. Tell us the size of your party and the occasion, and we will send a shortlist that suits it.
