Villas and country fincas at the foot of the Tramuntana, in the working heart of Mallorca
As featured in
Inca is Mallorca's third largest town, and it makes no effort to look like a postcard. It is a working market town that has made shoes for generations, with a weekly market that fills the centre every Thursday and a run of old wine cellars turned into restaurants. The Serra de Tramuntana rises just to the north, and the vineyards of Binissalem lie just to the south.
Our collection around Inca runs to 45 properties, from apartments and townhouses with shared or private pools to restored fincas among vines and almond trees, and large country villas for family gatherings. Many have views of the mountains.
Its real virtue is position. Palma, the north coast and the mountains are all within easy reach, so you can see the whole island from one base. Here is how to make the most of it.
Villa numbers and guide prices are updated daily from our live collection.

Inca has made leather goods for generations. Camper was founded here, and factory outlets around town still sell shoes, bags and jackets at good prices.
Thursday is the day to come into town. The weekly market is one of the largest on the island, spreading through the centre and along Gran Via de Colom from early morning until lunchtime, with stalls of cheese, olives, sobrassada, ceramics and leather.
Afterwards, find a table in one of the cellers. These are old wine cellars with huge barrels still lining the walls, and they now serve hearty Mallorcan cooking: frit mallorquí, roast suckling pig and the bread-thickened vegetable soup called sopes.

South of Inca lies the Binissalem wine region, Mallorca's oldest designation of origin. Its signature grape is Manto Negro, a native red, and family bodegas around Binissalem, Santa Maria and Consell welcome visitors for tastings.
Further east, the Pla de Mallorca is a quiet country of stone walls, windmills and almond orchards. Sineu holds its market on Wednesdays, and it has been doing so since the Middle Ages, so with Inca on Thursday you can make a week of island markets.

The Puig de Santa Magdalena rises just outside Inca, with a hermitage on the summit and wide views over the plain. Walk up, cycle up or drive up. Beyond it, the road climbs through the olive groves of Caimari to the monastery of Lluc in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
The beaches of the north coast are around half an hour away. Pollença has its old town and Calvari steps, and Alcúdia has its walled town and long sandy bay. Sóller and Deià, on the west side of the mountains, make a good day out.

Most of Mallorca winds down in autumn, which is when Inca comes into its own. A run of fairs begins after the feast of Sant Lluc in October and ends with Dijous Bo on the third Thursday of November. It is the island's largest fair, with livestock, farm produce, leather and wine, and the town parties late into the night before.
Spring is the best time for walking and cycling, and the almond trees blossom in late winter. High summer is hot inland, so you will be glad of a pool. Our concierge can book tables at the cellers, bodega visits and transfers.
