Le Mas D’Elise | 7-Bedroom Villa in Lagnes Saumane-de-Vaucluse

Cottage/Gite/Farm Rentals, Luxury Villas Rentals
| 7 Bedrooms|

Holiday Home Rental Description

Fourteen guests across seven bedrooms. A heated pool on a stone terrace. Walking distance to a Provençal village with a functioning 13th-century château visible from the hilltop. This is Le Mas D’Elise in Lagnes, a luxury villa rental in Provence that occupies the former stables and farmhouse of that same château, converted three centuries ago into a residence that still bears the marks of its aristocratic origins.

The location—just 7km from L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and 5km from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse—places you in one of France’s most compelling regions for art, gastronomy and landscape. Yet the property itself feels remote enough that you hear birdsong before traffic.

Inside Le Mas D’Elise

Le Mas D’Elise sleeps 16 guests across 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, distributed across two interconnected floor levels that preserve the building’s original character while delivering contemporary comfort.

Ground Floor contains the social heart. The living room features exposed timber joists running overhead, a working fireplace, a pool table, and French doors opening onto a courtyard terrace draped in wisteria. The dining room—vaulted ceiling intact from the original structure—accommodates up to 12 guests at its main table, with additional seating available from the kitchen. A fully-equipped kitchen includes a six-burner hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, Nespresso machine and food processor; a secondary table seats eight. A covered dining terrace extends from the kitchen for al-fresco meals. A utility room with garden access and a guest WC complete this level. Air-conditioning runs throughout the bedrooms above, and underfloor heating warms the main living areas during cooler months.

First Floor (accessed via the dining room staircase) holds three bedrooms. Bedroom 1 features a king-size bed (180cm, convertible to twins) with views toward the surrounding hills and a desk for those who cannot leave work entirely behind. Bedroom 2 offers a 160cm double bed, views across countryside and courtyard, and an en suite bathroom with walk-in shower, double sinks and separate WC. Bedroom 3 contains a striking four-poster bed, courtyard views, a desk, and an en suite bathroom with shower, twin sinks and WC.

First Floor (accessed via the living room staircase) accommodates four more bedrooms. Bedroom 4 has a 160cm double bed, a Juliet balcony overlooking the courtyard, and an en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and WC (shared access to Bedroom 5’s facilities). Bedroom 5 contains a 180cm bed (convertible to twins) with courtyard and pool views. Bedroom 6 offers a 160cm double bed, courtyard and pool views, and an en suite bathroom with shower and WC. Bedroom 7, the final bedroom, has a 160cm double bed, views toward courtyard and garden, and an en suite bathroom with shower and WC. Bedroom 7 also includes a mezzanine level accessed by open ladder-style steps, furnished with two single beds—useful for children or staff.

Each bedroom maintains independent climate control via air-conditioning units. Hairdryers, ironing facilities, a washing machine and tumble dryer serve all guests. Wi-Fi covers the entire property, and the pool table in the living room provides entertainment during evening hours.

Outdoor Spaces and Living

The grounds span one hectare across multiple levels. At the highest point sits the heated swimming pool—13 metres in length—positioned on a stone terrace and backed by a natural rockface. A removable safety cover protects the pool when not in use, essential for mixed-age groups. Stone steps descend from the pool terrace to secondary lounging areas.

The enclosed courtyard at the front functions as a sunken garden, shaded by mature plane trees and bordered by flower-lined walls. Multiple al-fresco dining tables allow guests to dine wherever the light is best—morning breakfast catches eastern sun, evening service faces west toward the surrounding countryside. A barbecue occupies a dedicated terrace zone.

Terraced gardens slope upward from the rear of the house, eventually merging into woodland with marked walking trails passing through pine groves. The topography creates numerous intimate seating areas—some sunny, some shaded—each with distinct views of either the pool, courtyard, or the hills beyond.

Gated parking accommodates multiple vehicles with secure access.

Location: Lagnes and the Surrounding Area

Lagnes itself is a small Provençal settlement where residents have maintained village character over commercialisation. Two minutes’ walk from Le Mas D’Elise brings you to the village centre, where a boulangerie supplies fresh bread daily and a handful of neighbourhood restaurants serve local cuisine. The 13th-century château—now privately owned—crowns the village hilltop, and the climb to its gates rewards visitors with panoramic views across the Vaucluse plains toward Mont Ventoux’s distinctive silhouette.

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, 7km away, functions as the region’s cultural and commercial hub. The town’s defining feature—its historic waterwheels positioned in the Sorgue river—frames views from riverfront cafés where lunch under plane trees becomes a ritual. Antique dealers occupy converted mill buildings; on Sunday mornings, the famed brocante spreads across the town, attracting dealers and collectors from across France. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (5km) offers a contrasting experience: a village organised around its source spring, where the river emerges from limestone cliffs. The site draws kayakers and canoeists year-round, and hiking trails ascend into the surrounding hills.

The Luberon region begins 12km east of Lagnes. Gordes, the most photographed village in Provence, rises dramatically on a hilltop 12km away. Ménerbes, Bonnieux and Roussillon—each with distinct character—sit roughly 20-25 minutes’ drive distant. To the south, the Alpilles Natural Regional Park contains villages including Les Baux-de-Provence (35km), a fortified settlement dramatically positioned on a rocky outcrop, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (30km), where Vincent van Gogh spent a transformative year in a psychiatric hospital and produced over 150 paintings. Arles (58km) preserves exceptional Roman and Romanesque architecture and serves as gateway to the Camargue wetlands.

Markets throughout the region showcase Provence’s agricultural wealth: Cavaillon melons in summer, Vaucluse cherries, strawberries and the black truffles sold in Carpentras’ winter markets. Cycling routes traverse the flat Vaucluse plains; experienced riders tackle Mont Ventoux’s legendary slopes (approximately 50km north). Walking opportunities pass olive groves of Les Alpilles and vineyards threading through Luberon villages. Explore our luxury villas in Lagnes and our full collection in France. For destination inspiration, read our Provence-Alpes travel guide.

Avignon, 40 minutes’ drive (35km), contains the Papal Palace and medieval ramparts—UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city’s restaurant scene has expanded dramatically over the past decade, and its contemporary art galleries rival Paris in ambition.

Who This Villa Suits Best

Multi-generational family groups benefit most from Le Mas D’Elise’s configuration. Seven separate bedrooms allow parents, grandparents and adult children to maintain privacy while gathering in shared spaces. The mezzanine bedroom suits children ages 5-12. The heated pool and courtyard garden provide supervised play areas without requiring parents to abandon relaxation entirely.

Groups of friends celebrating milestones—weddings, anniversaries, significant birthdays—find the property accommodates 16 without requiring dormitory-style sleeping arrangements. The pool table and extensive outdoor seating encourage evening socialising while maintaining conversation at a reasonable decibel level.

Couples seeking retreat with the option to entertain friends will appreciate the intimate courtyard dining for two, or the larger terrace for hosting dinner parties sourced from local markets.

Remote workers find adequate Wi-Fi, desks in Bedrooms 1 and 3, and quiet alcoves throughout the property. The village offers such limited commercial activity that digital disconnection is nearly forced—an advantage for those attempting to impose work boundaries.

Cyclists, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts benefit from proximity to marked trails, established cycling routes and village-to-village walking itineraries that require no guidebook.
