The picturesque village of Grohote lies on the edge of Šoltansko polje and is the oldest and largest village on the island. The charming village centre is made for wandering on a sunny afternoon, with narrow, labyrinthine streets and traditional stone architecture perfectly encapsulating Šolta’s rustic Mediterranean charm. From Villa Pitaya, the nearest shop is 400m away, while a local restaurant serving delicious Dalmatian delicacies is only 350m away. The villa is surrounded by untouched nature, with views stretching out over the enchanting village and towards the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.
The island’s scenic coastline is easily accessible from the villa, with the crystalline waters of Banje Beach only 1.5km away. On the pebbly shores of Banje, you can swim in the warm shallows of the Adriatic Sea or snorkel to discover the colourful underwater world of Šolta. Meanwhile, secluded Stračinska Bay is only fifteen minutes from Villa Pitaya. Fragrant pine trees surround the beach and provide picture-perfect sunset views and a heavenly swimming spot. Only ten minutes from the villa, Nečujam Bay is home to eight gorgeous coves which can be reached by boat, bike, kayak or on foot. The beaches of Šumpjivina, Potkamenica and Piškera showcase Dalmatia’s most serene coastal views.
Šolta is a hiker’s paradise, with trails taking in mesmerising ocean vistas and rolling olive groves, while cycling enthusiasts can rent bikes from the charming port town of Rogač. If you are up for an adventure on the water, hop on a boat tour or rent a sea kayak for the afternoon to explore the island’s sparkling southern bays. Scuba-diving experiences are also available, with qualified guides who will take you to discover sunken ships, underwater caves and magical coral reefs.
Foodies will adore learning about the island’s proud gastronomic heritage, with centuries-old traditions such as beekeeping and olive oil pressing to discover. Visit local honey and olive oil producers for intimate tours and tastings that provide a fascinating insight into the island’s history and culture and some tasty treats to sample! The seaside villages of Šolta are home to excellent restaurants and taverns where you can taste traditional Dalmatian dishes and local wines.
Just a scenic ferry or catamaran journey away, Split is the largest city on the Croatian coastline, offering a myriad of ancient sites to explore. Marvel at the ruins of the Roman emperor Diocletian’s palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back to the late third century. Occupying an enviable position on Split’s picturesque harbour, this sprawling palace is one of the most magnificent Roman structures still in existence today, comprising almost half of the beautiful old town of Split.
