Villas and apartments on the Atlantic Seaboard, between Table Mountain and the sea
As featured in
Few cities sit so close to wild country. Table Mountain rises more than a thousand metres above the city bowl, the Twelve Apostles run south along the coast towards Llandudno, and between the granite and the cold Atlantic lies a strip of beaches and suburbs where most visitors would happily spend the whole holiday. Behind it all, an hour's drive inland, are the vineyards of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
Our Cape Town collection runs to 150+ properties, most of them on the Atlantic Seaboard. They range from glass-fronted villas above Camps Bay and Bakoven to apartments in Clifton with steps down to the sand, and a few houses further afield in Constantia and Hout Bay.
Here is a guide to the neighbourhoods, the season and the best of the Cape.

Camps Bay is where most people picture themselves staying: a wide crescent of white sand, a row of palms, and a strip of restaurants and bars facing the sunset, with the Twelve Apostles rising straight up behind. Villas climb the slopes above, and the higher you go, the better the view.
Bakoven, just to the south, is smaller and quieter, with a scatter of granite boulders, a couple of sheltered coves and no main drag at all. It is a short walk back to Camps Bay for dinner, which suits a great many of our guests.

Clifton's four beaches are separated by granite outcrops and reached by steep steps, which keeps them sheltered from the south-easter and a little less crowded than Camps Bay. Apartments here sit right above the sand.
Bantry Bay, round the headland, is built into the cliffs and is one of the more wind-protected corners of the Seaboard. Beyond it, Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay have the promenade, where much of Cape Town walks, runs and cycles at dusk, along with good cafés and an easy run into town and the V&A Waterfront.

The cableway runs up Table Mountain on clear days, and Lion's Head is a popular hike, especially at sunrise. Kirstenbosch, on the mountain's eastern slopes, is one of the great botanical gardens, with concerts on summer evenings. Constantia has Groot Constantia, the oldest wine estate in South Africa.
Chapman's Peak Drive runs from Hout Bay along the cliffs towards Cape Point, and the African penguins of Boulders Beach near Simon's Town make a good stop on the way. Robben Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a ferry ride from the Waterfront.

Cape Town eats very well. There are serious tasting menus in the city and on the wine estates, but just as much pleasure in Cape Malay cooking from the Bo-Kaap, bobotie and koesisters among it, and in fish grilled on a braai. Wine is never far away.
Summer runs from November to March, which is just when the British winter is at its gloomiest, with long, dry days and the south-easter, the 'Cape Doctor', blowing in the afternoons. Winter is green and wet, and from around June to November southern right whales calve off Hermanus. Our concierge can book restaurants, wine tours and transfers.

With 150+ properties in Cape Town, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.
You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.
Restaurant reservations, wine estate tours in Constantia and the winelands, Table Mountain and Robben Island tickets, whale-watching trips, car hire and airport transfers. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
For most visitors, the Atlantic Seaboard. Camps Bay has the beach and restaurants, Bakoven and Clifton are quieter with sea views and coves, and Bantry Bay and Sea Point are sheltered from the wind and closer to the city and the V&A Waterfront.
November to March brings warm, dry summer weather and long evenings. March to May is quieter and still pleasant. June to August is the rainy winter, though it is also when whales start arriving along the coast.
The Atlantic beaches at Clifton and Camps Bay are beautiful but cold, even in summer. The water on the False Bay side, at Muizenberg and around Simon's Town, is noticeably warmer, and many villas have their own pools.
