Apartments in old palazzi from Brera to the Navigli, a short walk from the Duomo, La Scala and the Last Supper
As featured in
Milan does not try to charm you from the street. Its façades can look stern, even a little grey, but go through a carriage arch and you find magnolia courtyards, frescoed cloisters and the aperitivo hour done better than anywhere in Italy. This is the country's capital of fashion, design and money, and it also has Leonardo's Last Supper, the marble Duomo and La Scala.
Our Milan collection runs to 180+ apartments, from one-bedroom pieds-à-terre in the medieval lanes of Cinque Vie to family apartments of up to 5 bedrooms in Carrobbio, Moscova and Porta Romana. Some have terraces, and a few look out over the canals of the Navigli.
What follows is a guide to the neighbourhoods, the seasons worth timing a visit around, and getting out to the lakes.

Brera is the part of Milan most visitors fall for. Its cobbled streets are lined with galleries, wine bars and old bookshops, and the Pinacoteca di Brera holds Mantegna's Lamentation over the Dead Christ, Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin and a Caravaggio. Behind it is the small Orto Botanico, a good quiet corner on a hot afternoon.
Moscova, just to the north, is more residential and a little calmer. The Castello Sforzesco is a short walk west, and inside is Michelangelo's last sculpture, the unfinished Rondanini Pietà.

Between the Duomo and Sant'Ambrogio is a tangle of narrow medieval streets that most visitors walk straight past. Cinque Vie is named after the five lanes that meet there, and nearby Carrobbio leads down to the Colonne di San Lorenzo, a row of Roman columns where students gather on summer evenings.
The Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, founded by Milan's patron saint in the fourth century, is close by, and so is Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Last Supper. Stay here and you can walk to almost everything.

Milan was once a city of canals. The Naviglio Grande carried the marble for the Duomo into town, and today it and the Naviglio Pavese are lined with bars, trattorie and artists' studios, coming together at the Darsena, the old city harbour.
On the last Sunday of most months an antiques market runs along the Naviglio Grande. Porta Ticinese, with its medieval gate and the basilica of Sant'Eustorgio, is a livelier, younger base than Brera and suits those who like to eat late.

Milanese cooking is northern and rich: saffron risotto alla milanese, ossobuco, the breaded cotoletta and, at Christmas, panettone. The aperitivo is close to a religion here. Campari's old bar sits at the entrance to the Galleria, and the Negroni Sbagliato was first mixed at Bar Basso.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons. The Salone del Mobile in April and the fashion weeks in February and September fill the city, so book early. On 7 December, the feast of Sant'Ambrogio, La Scala opens its season. August is hot, and many shops and restaurants close. When you want a break from the city, Lake Como is under an hour away by train. Our concierge can find La Scala tickets and Last Supper slots, book tables and arrange transfers.

Tickets for La Scala and the Last Supper, restaurant tables, private guides, a personal shopper in the Quadrilatero della Moda, day trips to Lake Como and transfers from Linate and Malpensa. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Brera and Moscova suit those who want galleries, good restaurants and quiet evenings. Cinque Vie and Carrobbio put you in the old centre, a walk from the Duomo and the Last Supper, while Porta Ticinese and the Navigli are livelier at night.
April to June and September to October are the most pleasant months. The design and fashion weeks make the city busy and dearer, August is hot and partly closed, and early December brings La Scala's opening night and the Christmas markets.
The Last Supper is in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Visits are timed and in small groups, and tickets often sell out weeks ahead, so book as soon as your dates are fixed. Our concierge can help arrange tickets or a guided visit.

These are guide prices based on current listings; each property page shows its own rates for your dates.
Linate is the closest, around 7 km from the centre, and the M4 metro line now links it to San Babila. Malpensa, which takes more international flights, is around an hour away, and the Malpensa Express runs into the city. Bergamo airport is a similar distance. Our concierge can arrange private transfers from any of them.
