Sea-view villas with pools on the slopes north of Mykonos Town, where the evenings belong to the sunset
As featured in
Most people first see Tourlos from the deck of a ferry. The island's New Port sits at the bottom of the hill, around two kilometres north of Mykonos Town, and above it white houses climb the slopes towards the ridge. Few arriving passengers think to stay, which is a pity, because the hillside faces west across the bay and gets some of the best evening light on the island.
Our Tourlos collection runs to 35 villas and apartments on these slopes. They range from neat one-bedroom retreats for two to large family houses with infinity pools, and many have the long sea views that make a Mykonos terrace worth having.
Here is what the area is like, how it connects to the rest of the island, and when to come.

Villa Tourlos Greece8 bedroomsTourlos and neighbouring Agios Stefanos for sunsets and an easy run into town, with the south coast beaches of Psarou, Platis Gialos, Agios Ioannis and Elia a short drive away.

Life in Tourlos runs along a single coastal road. The port, its tavernas and the car hire desks sit at the water's edge, and the villas spread up the slopes behind. The higher you go, the quieter it gets and the wider the view, out across the bay to the open Aegean.
To the north, Tourlos merges into Agios Stefanos, which has a sheltered sandy beach and more cafés and restaurants. It is a practical part of the island. The airport is minutes away, Chora is close, and you avoid the steep, narrow lanes that make some parts of Mykonos hard work with luggage.
Explore Mykonos
The easiest way into Mykonos Town is the Sea Bus. In season this small water taxi leaves from beside the New Port roughly every half hour and reaches the Old Port in about eight minutes, so nobody has to worry about parking. From there you are a short walk from the bars of Little Venice and the windmills of Kato Mili above them.
Excursion boats to Delos also leave from the Old Port. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was sacred in antiquity as the birthplace of Apollo. Go early in the day, before the heat and the crowds build.

Tourlos is on the island's west side, and the famous beaches lie to the south, a short drive away. Psarou and Platis Gialos are polished and sociable, with smart beach clubs and good lunches. Agios Ioannis looks straight out at the sunset, and Elia, further east, is long and sandy.
Many guests split the day: a beach in the south after breakfast, then back to the terrace in Tourlos for the evening. When the summer meltemi blows from the north, the south coast is usually the calmer side.

Mykonian food is simpler than the island's reputation suggests. Look for kopanisti, a sharp, peppery local cheese, and louza, a cured pork flavoured with herbs. Both taste best with a glass of something cold and a view of the water.
The season runs from May to October. June and September are the sweet spots, with warm sea and quieter roads. July and August bring the crowds, the parties and the meltemi, a strong northerly wind that cools the evenings. Our concierge can book beach club sunbeds, boats to Delos, restaurant tables in Chora and transfers from the port or airport.
