Villas above the coves of the Costa Blanca, with Valencia's orange groves, rice fields and rooftops within reach
As featured in
The Valencia region runs for several hundred kilometres along Spain's eastern shore, from the walled headland of Peñíscola in the north to the limestone capes of the Costa Blanca in the south. In between lie orange groves, the rice fields of the Albufera where paella was born, and Valencia itself, a city that sets fire to its own monuments every March and calls it a festival.
Our collection here runs to 170+ villas. Most sit on the hillsides around Moraira, Calpe and Benissa, looking out over the Mediterranean, with others in the Jalón valley among vines and almond trees, and a handful further north near Peñíscola. The largest have up to 23 bedrooms.
What follows is a short guide to the coast, the city and the seasons.

Villa Romina Spain5 bedroomsMoraira for coves and a proper harbour town, Calpe for the Peñón de Ifach and a working fishing port, Benissa and Benitachell for quiet clifftop villas, and the wider Costa Blanca for golf and beaches.

Moraira is where most of our villas are found, and with good reason. It has kept the scale of a small harbour town, with a marina, a late eighteenth-century coastal fort on the beach and a string of rocky coves where the water stays clear well into autumn.
Next door, Calpe is dominated by the Peñón de Ifach, a limestone rock rising 332 metres straight from the sea and protected as a natural park. Its fish auction still runs at the port. Benissa has a handsome old town and a quiet coastline of small coves, while Benitachell sits high on the cliffs towards Jávea.

After a catastrophic flood in 1957, the River Turia was diverted around Valencia, and its old bed became a ribbon of gardens around nine kilometres long, now the city's favourite place to walk, run and cycle. At one end stands the City of Arts and Sciences, Santiago Calatrava's white complex of museum, opera house and aquarium.
The old town is the real pleasure: the Gothic silk exchange of La Lonja, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral, and the Mercado Central, one of the finest food markets in Europe. It makes a rewarding day out from a villa on the coast.

A short drive inland from Moraira, the Jalón valley is a different world of terraced vines, small bodegas and almond trees that flower pink and white in late winter. Villas here trade sea views for space, quiet and mountain light.
Much further north, on the Costa del Azahar, Peñíscola is a walled old town on a rocky headland, crowned by a castle built by the Knights Templar and later home to Pope Benedict XIII, the antipope known as Papa Luna. Its long sandy beach makes it a gentler choice for families.

Valencian paella is made with chicken, rabbit and broad white beans, never seafood, and it is eaten at lunchtime. On the coast, look for arroz a banda, rice cooked in fish stock, and in the city try horchata, a cold tiger nut drink served with long sweet buns called fartons.
The sea is at its best from May to October, while spring and autumn suit walking, golf and city days. Las Fallas, from 15 to 19 March, fills Valencia with enormous satirical sculptures that are burned on the final night. Our concierge can arrange restaurant tables, boat days, wine tastings and transfers.

Transfers from Alicante and Valencia airports, boat days from Moraira, restaurant tables, wine tastings in the Jalón valley, private chefs and car hire. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Moraira is the most popular choice for a villa, with coves, a marina and good restaurants. Calpe suits those who want a livelier town and the Peñón de Ifach, Benissa and Benitachell are quieter, the Jalón valley offers countryside, and Peñíscola in the north has a long sandy beach.
May to October is best for swimming and the beach. Spring and autumn are warm but quieter, and ideal for walking, golf and visiting Valencia city. Las Fallas, from 15 to 19 March, is spectacular but very busy.
It is Valencia's great spring festival, held from 15 to 19 March and recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Neighbourhoods build huge satirical figures, the city echoes with daily firecracker displays, and on the final night almost all the figures are burned.
