Villas in Bodrum

A crusader castle, a sailing town and a coastline of bays

Bodrum began as Halicarnassus, the birthplace of Herodotus and home of the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The Knights Hospitaller later used its fallen marble to build the Castle of St Peter, which still stands guard over the harbour. Around that core, the town spreads out in whitewashed houses and bougainvillea, and the peninsula beyond is a run of bays, each with its own character.

Our Bodrum collection runs to 42 villas, from easy two-bedroom houses for couples to larger family villas with room for a gathering, most of them with private pools. Some sit on the hillsides around Yalıkavak, others in quieter corners of the peninsula with views out to the Greek islands.

Here is how the peninsula divides up, and when it is at its best.

Where to stay in Bodrum

Bodrum town for the castle, the harbour and an evening stroll, Yalıkavak and the north coast for the marina and beach clubs, and Gümüşlük in the west for fish suppers and sunsets.

Bodrum Town

Knights, a lost Wonder and a twin harbour

The Castle of St Peter was begun by the Knights Hospitaller in the early fifteenth century, and each of its towers reflects the nation of the knights who built it. Inside is the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, which displays finds from Aegean shipwrecks reaching back to the Bronze Age, and it is reason enough for a morning in town.

A short walk inland brings you to the site of the Mausoleum. Little survives, since so much of it went into the castle walls, but standing there is quietly moving. The ancient theatre looks down over the bay, and by evening the waterfront fills with diners and the masts of moored gulets.

Yalıkavak & the North Coast

Superyachts, beach clubs and quieter coves

Yalıkavak was a sponge-diving village before it became a sailing town. These days its marina is among the smartest in the Aegean, lined with restaurants and boutiques, and the old windmills still stand on the ridge above.

Further east, Göltürkbükü is where Istanbul society spends its summer, with wooden jetties and beach clubs along the bay. Gündoğan, next door, is calmer, the sort of place for a long swim and lunch. The north coast catches the summer breeze, which keeps hot afternoons bearable.

Gümüşlük & the West

A sunken city and supper at the water's edge

Gümüşlük stands on the site of ancient Myndos, and protected status has kept the village low-rise and unhurried. Fish restaurants line the bay with tables almost in the sea, and you choose your supper from the morning's catch. Expect meze, grilled fish and a cold glass of rakı while the sun goes down.

Across a shallow channel lies Rabbit Island, and you can wade out to it over an old stone path, with the remains of Myndos visible beneath the water on the way.

Gulets, Food & the Seasons

Blue cruises, meze and a long golden autumn

Bodrum has long been known for its boatyards, and the broad wooden gulet is its signature craft. A day aboard, anchoring in coves the roads never reach, is the best way to see the coast. Each October, usually in the third week, the Bodrum Cup regatta races gulets and classic yachts under full sail.

The season runs from May to October. June and September bring warm seas without the August crowds, and October is often lovely. Our concierge can arrange gulet days, tables in Gümüşlük and Göltürkbükü, a private chef and airport transfers.

You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.

A concierge who knows the territory

Gulet days and blue cruises, tables at Gümüşlük's fish restaurants and Göltürkbükü's beach clubs, a private chef, ferry tickets to Kos, car hire and transfers from Milas-Bodrum airport. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.

A house for every kind of party

Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
