Sea-view villas above pine-fringed coves, from Begur and Palafrugell to the medieval villages of the Empordà
As featured in
The Costa Brava, the 'wild coast', runs north from Blanes to Portbou on the French border. It is a coast of red granite headlands, umbrella pines and small coves of very clear water. Behind it lies the Empordà, a country of stone villages, vineyards and long Catalan lunches. Most of the fishing villages kept their scale, and that is still the reason to come.
Our Costa Brava collection runs to 200+ villas. You will find modern houses with sea views above Aiguablava and Tamariu, golf-side villas near Begur, stone farmhouses inland, and family houses with spas and private pools, the largest with 11 bedrooms.
Here is how the coast divides, what to eat and when to go.

Villa Dorada Garrigas Peralada: 8-Bedroom Estate with Golf Nearby & Tennis Court – Costa Brava8 bedroomsBegur and Palafrugell for the finest coves and the coastal villages of Tamariu, Llafranc and Calella, Pals and Palau-sator for medieval Empordà, and Blanes and Vidreres for the southern coast and easy access from Barcelona.

Most of our villas sit on the stretch of coast between Begur and Palafrugell, and with good reason. Begur is a hill town crowned by a ruined castle. Its streets are lined with the colonial houses of the indianos, local men who made fortunes in Cuba and came home. Below the town lie the coves of Aiguablava, Sa Tuna and Sa Riera.
Palafrugell keeps its three seaside villages a short drive apart. Tamariu is the smallest and quietest, Llafranc has a neat little harbour, and Calella de Palafrugell has whitewashed arches and fishing boats pulled up on the sand. The Camí de Ronda, an old coastal path, links them all, and the walk from Calella to Llafranc takes well under an hour.

A few minutes inland the coast gives way to rice fields, sunflowers and walled villages of honey-coloured stone. Pals, Peratallada and the quieter Palau-sator are best seen in the evening, when the day trippers have gone and the squares fill for dinner.
This is also Dalí country. He gave Gala a castle at Púbol, his Theatre-Museum fills a former theatre in Figueres, and his house at Portlligat stands beside the bay just outside Cadaqués, at the far northern end of the coast. Near L'Escala, the ruins of Empúries mark where Greeks and then Romans first came ashore in Iberia.

The Costa Brava officially starts at Blanes, where the botanical garden of Marimurtra climbs a headland above the sea. Up the coast is Tossa de Mar, whose medieval walls and towers still enclose an old town on its own promontory. Lloret de Mar is livelier, but the coves on either side of it are much calmer.
Villas around Vidreres, inland, are well placed for both Girona and Barcelona and suit those who want a day in the city as well as days on the beach.

The table here mixes sea and mountain. Try the red prawns of Palamós, the salted anchovies of L'Escala and suquet, the fisherman's stew. Pa amb tomàquet comes with almost everything, and Girona, with some of Spain's most celebrated restaurants, is an easy drive for a special dinner.
On the first Saturday of July, Calella de Palafrugell holds its Cantada d'Havaneres on the beach at Port Bo, singing the sea shanties sailors brought home from Cuba. The Cap Roig Festival fills the gardens above Calella with concerts in July and August. June and September are the sweet spot, with warm sea and easier parking. Our concierge can arrange boat trips, tables and tickets.

With 200+ properties on the Costa Brava, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.
You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.
Boat trips to the hidden coves, tables in Girona and the Empordà, tickets for the Cap Roig Festival, tee times near Pals, car hire and transfers from Girona or Barcelona. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Begur and Palafrugell, with the coastal villages of Tamariu, Llafranc and Calella, have the prettiest coves and most of our villas. Pals and Palau-sator suit those who prefer a medieval village and a short drive to the sea, while Blanes and Vidreres are closest to Barcelona.
July and August are hot and busy. June and September have warm seas and quieter coves, and May and October are best for walking the Camí de Ronda and visiting the inland villages.
It is an old coastal path, once patrolled by guards watching for smugglers, that runs along much of the Costa Brava. The section between Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu is one of the most rewarding, with swimming coves all along the way.

These are guide prices based on current listings; each property page shows its own rates for your dates.
Girona airport is the closest to most of the coast. Barcelona airport has more flights and is around an hour and a half from Begur by road. High-speed trains also link Barcelona with Girona. Our concierge can arrange car hire and private transfers.
