Villas with private pools and sea views, from Saint-Tropez to Cap d'Antibes and the hills above Nice

The French Riviera was a winter resort for British aristocrats before the Americans of the 1920s discovered it in summer, and it has been the most glamorous coast in Europe ever since. Matisse, Picasso, Chagall and Renoir all worked here, the light is famous, and between the beaches and the perched villages inland there is enough to fill many summers.
Our French Riviera collection runs to 390+ villas, from belle époque villas on Cap d'Antibes to contemporary houses with infinity pools in the hills above Cannes and Saint-Tropez.
Here is where to stay, when to go and what to do.

Cannes is best known for its film festival each May, but its old quarter of Le Suquet, the Forville market and the Lérins Islands offshore are just as rewarding. Behind it, Mougins is a perched village of galleries and restaurants, and the hills around it are full of villas with views to the sea.

Antibes has ramparts, a Provençal market and the Picasso Museum in the Château Grimaldi, where the artist worked in 1946. The Cap d'Antibes, a wooded peninsula of grand villas and the Hôtel du Cap, was the setting for much of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night.

Nice is a lively city with an old town, the Cours Saleya market, the Promenade des Anglais and museums dedicated to Matisse and Chagall. In the hills, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, with the Fondation Maeght, and Èze, high above the sea, are among the most beautiful villages in France, and Monaco is a short drive along the coast.

Saint-Tropez, at the western end of the Riviera, has a harbour lined with yachts and cafés, the beach clubs of Pampelonne and the vineyards of Ramatuelle and Gassin behind them. The season runs from May to October, and Grasse, the perfume capital, is worth a visit for its jasmine and roses. Our concierge can arrange yacht charters, beach club tables, a private chef and transfers.
