Villas and apartments above a volcanic coastline of white rock, sea caves and fishing villages, with Sifnos and Serifos a short sail away
As featured in
Milos owes almost everything to its volcanic past. The island curves around a great natural harbour, and its coast is a run of white pumice, red and ochre cliffs, sea caves and coves that change colour through the day. A farmer found the Venus de Milo here in 1820, and the statue has been in the Louvre ever since. Milos has never minded much, as it kept the beaches.
Our collection runs to 60+ villas and apartments across Milos and its western Cycladic neighbours, Sifnos and Serifos. Most are small to mid-sized: couples' villas with a plunge pool or hot tub, family houses with sea views, and a few larger homes of up to 7 bedrooms.
This guide covers where to stay, when to come and how the three islands differ.

Plaka, the hilltop capital, is all whitewashed lanes, small shops and a ruined Venetian castle that half the island climbs for sunset. Just below it lie Klima, a fishing hamlet whose boathouses have brightly painted doors at the water's edge, an ancient theatre and the early Christian catacombs.
Adamas, on the bay, is the port and the most practical base, with tavernas and a small mining museum that explains how the island was made. Pollonia, in the north-east, is quieter, with fish restaurants along a sheltered harbour and small boats across to Kimolos.

Sarakiniko, on the north coast, is a bay of smooth white volcanic rock that looks more like the moon than the Aegean, and is best seen early before the crowds arrive. Papafragas, nearby, is a narrow inlet between cliffs.
The south coast has the sandier beaches, including Firiplaka, Tsigrado and Provatas. In July and August, when the meltemi blows from the north, these are usually the calmer choice. Kleftiko, a cluster of rock arches and caves in the south-west that once sheltered pirates, is best reached by boat, and a day at sea is the way most people fall for Milos.

Sifnos is the cook's island of the Cyclades. Nikolaos Tselementes, the chef who more or less wrote the book on modern Greek cuisine, was born here, and the island still has a long tradition of pottery. Kastro is a fortified village above the sea, the little monastery of Chrysopigi stands on a rock off the coast, and Platis Gialos and Vathy have sheltered sandy bays.
Serifos is wilder and quieter, with a Chora perched high above the harbour at Livadi and old iron mines near Megalo Livadi. In legend it is where the infant Perseus washed ashore.

On Milos, look for pitarakia, small fried cheese pies, and grilled fish in Pollonia or Klima. On Sifnos, revithada, a chickpea stew baked overnight in a clay pot, is traditionally a Sunday dish, and mastelo is lamb or goat slow-cooked with wine and dill.
The season runs from late May to early October. July and August are hot, busy and often windy. June and September are the connoisseur's months, with warm water and fewer boats at Kleftiko. In September the village of Artemonas on Sifnos hosts the Cycladic Gastronomy Festival, when cooks from across the islands fill the square. Our concierge can arrange boats, transfers and tables.

With 60+ properties in Milos, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Private boat days to Kleftiko and the sea caves, ferry and flight connections, transfers, car hire, restaurant reservations in Plaka and Pollonia, and island hopping to Sifnos and Serifos. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Plaka and Adamas are the most convenient, with restaurants, sunsets and the ferry port close by. Pollonia suits those who want a quieter fishing harbour, and villas near the south coast put the sandier, more sheltered beaches within easy reach.
June and September are ideal, with warm seas and fewer visitors. July and August are the busiest months and the meltemi wind can be strong, which is when the south coast beaches come into their own.
Kleftiko, on the south-west coast, is best reached by sea. Boat trips leave from Adamas in summer, usually with stops to swim in the caves and arches, and our concierge can arrange a private boat for the day.
