Villas with pools and sea views on the Costa Blanca, and the city of Valencia within reach
As featured in
The Valencian Community covers Spain's eastern seaboard, from Castellón in the north through Valencia to Alicante in the south. For a villa holiday, the best of it is the northern Costa Blanca. Here the mountains run down to the sea at Cap de la Nau, and towns like Jávea, Moraira, Calpe and Altea look out over clear water and small rocky coves.
Our collection in the region runs to 440+ properties. Most are villas with private pools on the hillsides above the coast, and there are sea-view apartments in Calpe and Jávea and a handful of homes near Valencia itself. The largest have room for big family gatherings.
Below you will find where to stay, when to come and what to eat when you get there.

Jávea, or Xàbia in Valencian, sits beneath the bulk of the Montgó, a limestone massif that is now a natural park. The town has three distinct parts: an old town of honey-coloured stone, a fishing port, and the sandy Arenal beach with its line of restaurants. South of it, the road climbs to Cap de la Nau and drops down to the cove of La Granadella, where the water is about as clear as the Mediterranean gets.
Moraira is quieter and smaller, with a little castle on the seafront, a marina and villas spread across the pine-covered slopes behind. Many families come back to it year after year.

Calpe is dominated by the Peñón de Ifach, a sheer limestone rock rising more than 300 metres straight from the sea. It is a protected natural park, and a path climbs part of the way up. Behind the town, flamingos often wade in the old salt flats.
Altea, a few minutes south, has one of the prettiest old towns on the coast, a hilltop of whitewashed lanes that leads up to a church with blue-tiled domes. Benissa, between Calpe and Moraira, has a quiet Gothic old town inland and a string of small coves below. Villas here are among the most peaceful in the region.

Spain's third city is an easy day out from the Costa Blanca, and it rewards a longer stay. The Lonja de la Seda, the fifteenth-century silk exchange, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Mercado Central nearby is one of the great food markets of Europe. After floods, the old bed of the River Turia was turned into a long park. It runs through the city to Santiago Calatrava's City of Arts and Sciences.
South of the city lies the Albufera, a freshwater lagoon ringed by rice fields. Have lunch in the village of El Palmar and you will find out what paella is supposed to taste like.

This is the home of paella. The Valencian original is made with chicken, rabbit and broad white beans, never with chorizo. On the coast, look for arroz a banda, rice cooked in fish stock, and the prized red prawns of Dénia. In summer, cold horchata is served with sticky fartons for dipping.
The beach season runs from May to October, and the mild winters suit walking, cycling and golf. In March, Valencia holds Las Fallas, which ends in a night of bonfires. In June, Alicante lights its own fires for the Hogueras de San Juan. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, boat trips, a private chef and transfers.

With 440+ properties in the Valencian Community, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.

Restaurant tables, boat trips along the Cap de la Nau coast, a private chef for a proper paella, tickets for Las Fallas, car hire and transfers from Alicante or Valencia. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
For a villa holiday, the northern Costa Blanca is the best choice. Jávea and Moraira have the widest choice and the clearest water, Calpe and Altea have sea views and old towns, and Benissa is the quietest. Valencia suits a city stay.
Alicante and Valencia airports both have direct flights from the UK. Altea and Calpe are closer to Alicante. Jávea and Moraira are roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter from either airport by road.
Las Fallas is Valencia's great festival, held each March and listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Huge satirical figures fill the streets for days, with fireworks and processions. On the final night, the figures are burned.
