Sea-view villas and apartments between two capes, beneath the great limestone bulk of Montgó
As featured in
Jávea, or Xàbia as the Valencian signs have it, sits at the eastern tip of the Costa Blanca. Its bay is held between Cap de Sant Antoni and Cap de la Nau, and the whole town is watched over by Montgó, a 753 metre limestone massif that changes colour through the day. Plenty of British visitors have noticed the light, the clear water and the unhurried pace, and quite a few never went home.
Our Jávea collection runs to 220+ properties, from contemporary villas with heated pools and wide sea views to apartments above La Grava and the Arenal, and Mediterranean houses on the pine-covered slopes towards the capes. The largest have 8 bedrooms.
Below is a guide to the three parts of town, the coves and the best time to come.

Villa Vida Bella Spain4 bedroomsThe Arenal for sand and seafront restaurants, the Port for fishing boats and La Grava, the Old Town for market mornings, and the hills towards Cap de la Nau and Granadella for privacy and views.

Jávea is really three places. The Old Town sits a little inland, built around the fortified Gothic church of San Bartolomé, with narrow streets of honey-coloured stone and a market on Thursdays.
Down on the water, the Port is still a working harbour, where the fishing fleet lands its catch and the pebbled beach of La Grava runs along the promenade. A short walk round the bay brings you to the Arenal, the sandy beach, with shallow water for children and a long line of restaurants and bars facing the sea. Most families choose a villa within reach of one of the three, and the slopes between them have some of the best views.

South of the Arenal the coast turns rocky. The Portitxol cove looks out at its small island, Cala Barraca has a beach of grey pebbles and a seafood restaurant, and further on, Granadella is a deep inlet among pines with some of the clearest water on this stretch of coast. All three are favourites for snorkelling and kayaking.
Above them, the lighthouse at Cap de la Nau marks the easternmost point of the Costa Blanca, and the views from the cliffs are worth the winding drive. Benitachell and Moraira are just beyond.

Montgó and its natural park belong to both Jávea and Dénia. The path to the summit is a steady morning's climb, best started early, and the view from the top takes in the bay, the capes and the coast running north towards Valencia. Below Cap de Sant Antoni, the Cova Tallada is a sea cave reached by a scramble along the rocks or by kayak.
Inland, look out for riu-raus, the arched porches where muscatel grapes were once dried into raisins, a trade that made the Marina Alta prosperous. The Jalón valley, a short drive away, still makes wine from the same grape.

Rice is the great dish here, above all arroz a banda, cooked in fish stock and served with alioli, and the fish from the Port is as fresh as you will find. Jávea's own fiesta, the Fogueres de Sant Joan, fills the Old Town with bonfires and parades in June, and the Moros i Cristians, with mock battles on La Grava, comes in the third week of July. The sea is warmest from June to October, and spring and autumn are lovely for walking. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, boat trips, kayaks and transfers.

With 220+ properties in Jávea, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.
You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.
Restaurant tables at the Arenal and the Port, boat and kayak trips to the coves, a guide for Montgó, car hire and transfers from Alicante or Valencia. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
The Arenal suits families who want a sandy beach and restaurants on foot, the Port suits those who like a working harbour and the promenade at La Grava, and the hills towards Cap de la Nau and Granadella have the most privacy and the widest sea views.
June to September is best for the beach, and the sea often stays warm well into October. Spring and autumn are quieter and the best time for walking Montgó and the capes.
