Apartments in King's Cross

Old goods yards, a canal and the best-connected corner of London

Thirty years ago few visitors stayed in King's Cross by choice. Today the Victorian railway lands behind the station have become one of the most interesting quarters in London. Granary Square, Coal Drops Yard and the canal towpath are full of restaurants and independent shops, and Central Saint Martins brings in a steady stream of art students. Bloomsbury and the British Library are a short walk away.

Our King's Cross collection runs to 47 apartments, from one-bedroom flats for a couple in town for a few nights to three-bedroom family apartments in the new canal-side buildings. Some have balconies, rooftop terraces, gym access or parking.

Here is a guide to the neighbourhood, where to eat and how to get about.

Neighbouring areas

The canal-side streets around Granary Square for restaurants and the towpath, the quieter Georgian squares towards Bloomsbury, and Islington and Clerkenwell a short walk to the east.

Granary Square & the Canal

Coal sheds, fountains and a floating bookshop

The centre of the new King's Cross is Granary Square, where 1,080 fountain jets are lit at night and children spend summer afternoons running through them. Its broad steps lead down to the Regent's Canal, where a bookshop barge is often moored.

Next door, Heatherwick Studio's Coal Drops Yard opened in 2018 in two Victorian sheds where coal from South Yorkshire was once unloaded. The curving roofs now join above a cobbled yard of shops and restaurants. Gasholder Park, set inside a restored iron gasholder frame, and the Camley Street Natural Park, a small wildlife reserve, are a few minutes away along the water.

St Pancras & Bloomsbury

Gothic brick, Magna Carta and the Paris train

St Pancras is reason enough to stay here. George Gilbert Scott's red-brick Gothic hotel stands in front of William Barlow's great iron train shed, and Eurostar runs from under that roof to Paris in a little over two hours. Breakfast in London and lunch on the Left Bank is a perfectly reasonable plan.

Next door, the British Library keeps Magna Carta and Shakespeare's First Folio in its free Treasures gallery. South of Euston Road the streets grow quieter. Regent Square and the Georgian terraces lead into Bloomsbury, and the British Museum is about a twenty-minute walk away.

Walks from the Door

West to Camden, east to Islington

The Regent's Canal towpath is the best way out of King's Cross on foot. Go west and you pass narrowboats and lock-keepers' cottages to reach Camden Lock, then carry on beside Regent's Park and London Zoo towards Little Venice. Go east and you soon reach the London Canal Museum, set in a former ice warehouse with a Victorian ice well beneath it.

Islington's Upper Street, with its restaurants, antique shops and theatres, is a short walk east. Clerkenwell and its good food are just to the south-east.

Food & the Seasons

Canal-side tables and a city for every month

King's Cross eats well. There is Indian cooking at Dishoom, set in a former railway goods shed, and all-day brunch at Caravan in the Granary Building. Coal Drops Yard has small restaurants, bakeries and bars, and Kings Place hosts concerts beside the canal.

London has no off season. Summer brings people out to the canal steps and the fountains. Autumn and spring are good for museums and walks, and December brings a large Christmas installation to St Pancras. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, theatre tickets, Eurostar connections and airport transfers.
