Apartments and townhouses between the Regent's Canal, Primrose Hill and the green slopes of Hampstead Heath
As featured in
Camden Town has never quite behaved itself, and that is much of its appeal. Dickens spent part of his boyhood in Bayham Street, Walter Sickert painted its lodging houses and gave his name to the Camden Town Group of artists in 1911, and the Roundhouse, built in 1847 to turn railway engines, went on to host the Doors and Pink Floyd. Today the market sprawls around the lock, and a few streets away the stucco terraces of Primrose Hill could hardly be calmer.
Our Camden Town collection runs to 50+ homes, mostly apartments and townhouses, from one-bedroom flats near Mornington Crescent to family townhouses close to the canal and houses of up to 5 bedrooms towards Gospel Oak and the Heath.
What follows is a guide to the neighbourhoods, the canal and the best times to come.

The Camden Town of the postcards is Camden High Street and Chalk Farm Road, loud, cheerful and busiest at weekends. Turn off either and the mood changes quickly. Primrose Hill, across the railway, is all pastel terraces, bookshops and cafés along Regent's Park Road, with the park itself on the doorstep.
To the north, Kentish Town and Gospel Oak are properly residential, with Victorian streets, local pubs and Parliament Hill a short walk away. South of the station, Mornington Crescent has the Art Deco former Carreras cigarette factory, its black cats still guarding the door, and Somers Town runs down to St Pancras.

Camden Lock, properly Hampstead Road Lock, is the only twin lock left on the Regent's Canal, and the market has grown up around it over half a century: the Stables, Camden Lock Market, Buck Street and the newer Hawley Wharf. Go on a weekday morning if crowds are not your idea of fun.
The towpath is the neighbourhood's best secret, quietly leading west past the edge of London Zoo and Regent's Park to Little Venice, or east to King's Cross and Islington. If you would rather sit than walk, the London Waterbus runs between Camden Lock and Little Venice in around 45 minutes, with a stop at the zoo.

Climb Primrose Hill at dusk and the whole of central London lays itself out below you, from the BT Tower to the City. It is a short walk from most of our Camden homes and a favourite for a picnic or a morning run.
Hampstead Heath is a little further, and well worth it. Parliament Hill gives another great view, Gospel Oak has the Parliament Hill Lido, and Kenwood House, with its Rembrandt and Vermeer, sits at the far end of the Heath. Hampstead village, with its lanes and old pubs, makes a good finish.

Camden has been central to London's music scene since the 1960s, and it still is: the Roundhouse, the Jazz Cafe, the Electric Ballroom and the Forum in Kentish Town all have busy calendars. The market's street food covers most of the world, while Primrose Hill and Kentish Town have quieter neighbourhood restaurants and good gastropubs.
London works in every season. Summer brings long evenings on the canal and the Heath, and the Camden Fringe fills small theatres in August. Spring and autumn are calmer for walking, and December is for markets and lights. Our concierge can book gig and theatre tickets, tables, canal trips and transfers.

Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
Primrose Hill is the most elegant and peaceful choice, with Regent's Park close by. Stay near the canal and Camden High Street for the market and music, or in Kentish Town and Gospel Oak for a residential feel near Hampstead Heath.

Camden High Street and Chalk Farm Road are lively, especially on weekend evenings. The residential streets of Primrose Hill, Kentish Town and Gospel Oak are much quieter, and we can suggest homes to suit how you like to sleep.
